Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

Very strage, if the result is anything but OK, it should show a toast with the error.

Try this https://bitbucket.org/willlunniss/servi ... -DEBUG.apk

It is signed with the same key so you should be able to install it over the current one, might be best to uninstall it anyway, you will proably have to remove it before going back to google play for updates.

Seach logcat for the tag 'ServiiGo' and paste it in, provided you don't load any images, the url's will all be reletive so you can paste it all except for the initial [Application:login] Server :IP:PORT line (although if you are using a private 192.168.X.X IP then it doesn't matter)

You can then try the URLs from the [Application:browse] Url : browse/XXXX lines in your browser and see what the result is by visiting http://IP:PORT/cds/browse/XXXXX

Will I apologize this is my fault I figured out the problem. Last night right before I downloaded the latest release I also grabbed a new profile.xml that Patters created for some tweaks to Sony devices. I completely forgot ServiiGo needs a profile so that is why nothing would show on the screen. Shouldn't be an issue once the profile is included in the serviio setup.

Completely my fault - sorry about that! Too much going on at once.

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

Ok thanks for getting back to me. That should have thrown an error so i'll try to improve it.

Well if I get some feedback on the profile, then I'll get zip to include it in the next beta.

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

There are two ways to get info from TMDb, search or a direct request. Search gives access to some info importantly a nicer imgage, rating and a few other bits. The direct request gives access to it all, e.g the cast, genres, tagline, youtube trailer (e.g. http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/6957-th ... old-virgin). If/once zip adds the tvdb id to the API, then I can get the full info for users with online metadata on, and I can either get the limited info, or perform two requests for those who supplied their own info.

Baring this in mind, what detailed info from TMDb would you like to see, and how would you like it layed out etc...
Also thoughts on the size of the poster?

The ratings from TMDb appear to have a lot less votes than IMDB, so I could also go and fetch the IMDB ratings if people want.

Also remember they have to scale and look OK if I cannot find the information/the user has turned it off.

I'll be doing a similar, but different thing for tv shows.

some nice UI example: http://tech.uk.msn.com/tv/netflix-and-l ... comparison

I'd look for some inspiration with other mobile apps :-)

OK thanks, well i've nearly finised on the boring parts of the video browsing, so I can have a good play with the UI now and should have something good to show by the end of the weekend.

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

Right, i've had a little re-shuffle of things. Is this better?

Once I decide on the branding/theme, i'll pick a subtle background image to fill the empty space in portait mode.

@zip is there anything I can do to tell what language to fetch extra metadata in so that it matched what you are sending e.g. for getting all the genres?

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

re language: no, you'd have to have a setting in the app.

In regards to multiple genres, I don't think it's a priority as you cannot browse by it anyway, so you can just get the single genre Serviio provides. Hopefully in future Serviio will actually send multiple genres.

i like the screenshots, but it's too busy now. Could you make the background monotone-like? basically surpress the colours. But get opinions of others too, I'm not a great designer :-)

In that case I will just base it on whatever they set their phone to.

Ok, i'll have a go and applying a filter over them, otherwise I can tone down the alpha setting which is currenly at 75%

So this is alpha 60% and saturation 10% (artifacts are due to resizing the screenshots, and not present in the actual images)

I still have some more stuff to add in the gaps, but if it is still empty I can up the font size.

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

I've uploaded a new update to google play, with the highlight being proper TMDb intergration for movies. The next release will hopefully bring TVDB intergration for tv shows.

At the moment I'm only caching the data for the life of the object (so if you quit the app or refresh the view it is lost), once i've finished TVDB intergration, i'll setup a database with the info on the device to save refetching it every time.

So please give feedback on the data and how it is displayed. Right now the views for tv shows and other content is very boring, and not quite layed out right, that will be fixed next.

I would also like to hear from anyone who has either used live streams, or subtitles (the subtitles url is copied to the clipboard so that you can paste them into your video player) but I haven't tested that.

  Code:
==== Beta 3 ====
*Finished first attempt at intergrating TMDb
*Lots of adjustments to the video views (first part of #7)
*Combined the memory caches to prevent OOM errors (#1)
*Intergrated online images with cache
*Navigation position is now tracked when browsing
*Fixed FC during login on some android 2.2 devices due to unsupported data format

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

i messed around with the extension profile for the LOW setting and with no real surprise i edited this and it fixed my audio issue on my phone.
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="mp3" forceStereo="true" aSamplerate="22050" maxVBitrate="500" maxHeight="240">

I changed it to the 44100 and it played fine. It maxes out my bandwidth i think but the audio cuts that I was getting are gone.
  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="mp3" forceStereo="true" aSamplerate="44100" maxVBitrate="500" maxHeight="240">

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

What if you add the following to keep the target audio bitrate down, while having the higher sample rate?

  Code:
aBitrate="192"

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

I have tested this all morning. While I can check to see the audio bitrate has changed on my phone, it doesn't appear to help. What I thought was bandwidth being maxed out was in fact the problem still persisting, just not as bad. I have tried all different kinds of sample rates and bit rates. All somewhat unsuccessful for my device. It appears that this phone might be just limited in that aspect. the other files that I have that are m4v and avi, all work flawlessly. I am at a loss why this only affects the MKV container.

Re: ServiiGo - Android 3G/Wifi Playback App - Beta

Hmmm that is very odd, I would have thought the forced transcoding to MP3 would have worked regardless of the source format.

Could it be a slimiar problem to viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5823 ?

Edit, if you want you can change mpegts to flv, so that it matches the flv_player profile, but you will loose the multi-core encoding.

I believe you are correct. I was watching network traffic last time I was testing this. When the network traffic stopped on the outbound graph (console on my router), I first thought it was a coincidence. Then it happened every time following. Graph would peak and sound would return, when the outbound went back to near nothing the sound would cut out again. after about 5 peaks and valleys I decided there must be a relevance, but I have no idea why or how to describe the problem...until now. So it appears that the it could be the Chunking issue described in viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5823 .

As a temporary fix to my problem I am remuxing my favorite MKV's to m4v's, as this device will play those just fine.

EDIT: Also I already tried flv as a container but it completely didn't work. No video no sound. It really probably is just the device, since my wifes Droid 4 works fine. This device is always about 4 or 5 months behind the mainstream phones and it is very limited on memory and cpu power.

I came up with a partial solution. Tested multiple times on multiple files. It appears to eliminate the chunking of the dlna stream. What I did was download an SSH client and tunnel through my router with port 23424. Localhost:23424 to my server 10.0.0.2:23424 In serviigo for my server address I put in 127.0.0.1 and it forwards through the tunnel to the server.

So the new problem is that the video lags behind. The audio plays perfectly and the video appears to be playing half the speed. This only happens on my problem videos. M4V's, AVI's, and select MKV files play just fine. But my MKV files created with handbrake and AC-3 passthrough, for some reason go out of sync.

I am not asking for a fix on this. However I do like tunneling as it will encrypt the data stream. It does however create a larger overhead on the datastream that gets transfered over the network. If you are concerned with your data package I would not recommend this.

That is very strange, no idea why that half fixes/breaks the video. Not sure what to try really. Did you try adapting the profile to be more like the media browser one e.g. change to flv rather than mpegts?
