Some samples tested:

FAQ
- Subtitle not supported in MPEG program streams (VOB files in other words).
- SRT subtitle files not supported (must be "burned" into video stream, need to transcode/remux it using virtualdub/avidemux)
- USB interface limited to FAT32
- When video bitrate is expensive (>20Mbps), the TV (could) becomes unresponsive - doesn't react on remote commands any more. Check with Bitrate Viewer
- MKV files are not supported in native format by Sony Bravia EX, so Serviio will transcode in MPEG2TS, nevertheless all subtitles will be lost with transcoding.
- AVC H264 High Profile maximum Level is 4.1
- Photo JPEG YCbCr 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 formats, and conforming to DCF 2.0 or Exif 2.21 are supported, Photo JPEG YCbCr 4:4:4 are not supported. Need to have jpegs with a medium quality level. The TV set won't accept "Highest" and "High" quality levels of a NX2 or Photoshop converted jpeg file.
- AVI files are supported with some restrictions: - DivX only in SD resolution, - Xvid are supported with QPEL = No and GMC : 0 / No warppoints, - Some fourCC are not supported, used : XVID

Q: I can see the file on my TV and has a thumbnail picture, but when I try to play the file I get an error "The server is Temporarily unavailable". Serviio log : ERROR [ResourceTransportRequestHandler] Error while processing resource, sending back 500 error. Message: FFmpeg execution failed java.io.IOException: FFmpeg execution failed
A: Turn on detailed logging (see link) you should be able to see the FFmpeg command that is used for the transcode. Try executing the command manually in a terminal window and post the (error) result here.

Q: What file types/bitrates have worked the best for those with sony DLNA products?
A: It is very difficult to answer.
- Best container, probably MKV but not supported with all DLNA products, best Sony container seems to be MPEG2-TS limited to 20-25Mbps bitrate.
- Best Audio encoder is DTS but AC3 must be preferred ( 2channels with 192kbps, 6 channels with 384kbps)
- Best video encoder is x264 (AVC/H264) maximum 1920 x 1080 resolution, you could probably set the maximum video bitrate to 15-17Mbps.

Q: With the new version of Handbrake (0.9.5), encoded video does not work.
A: The new version of Handbrake (0.9.5) uses a variable framerate with some encodes. Sony does not appear to be able to handle these.
The latest builds include a handy checkbox that allows the user to force a constant framerate – if this is checked, Handbrake will work fine with Sony.
Here's a Handbrake developer's reply on the Handbrake forum:
“The problem is with your player. In 0.9.5, HandBrake started producing correct variable framerate h.264. Prior to 0.9.5, HandBrake produced variable framerate timestamps, but did not set the correct flags in the encoded video. The tbc value you are looking at is the codec time base. With variable framerate h.264, the codec time base is *not* the same thing as the framerate. 180k is the right value. So to make your player happy, you are going to have to select constant framerate. In recent nightly builds, there is a checkbox for this. In 0.9.5, picking a specific framerate instead of “Same as source” will force constant framerate.”

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

It seems that Bravia 2011 "may" support following format but for the moment, the profile could not provide the good profile description.
We need help to find the solution.

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

With following line, 2011 models support AVI files with some restrictions:
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/avi" name="">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>

Restrictions:
- DivX only in SD resolution
- Xvid are supported with QPEL = No and GMC : 0 / No warppoints
- Some fourCC are not supported, used : XVID

You can change the fourCC field with that tool : http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=avi4cc
- example: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5109&p=35952&hilit=fourcc#p35946

You can also check your AVI file with that tool : http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=avirepair

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

I have a US model and firmware PKG3.904AAA, which does not list AVI as supported (however it did work in the past). Also I don't see mkv in the protocol info, but it lists and plays fine. Posted below, my protocol info doesn't match the originally posted info in this thread. Also I notice this US support formats link doenst match the sony.uk image you posted http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/support-info.pl?info_id=799&mdl=KDL55NX720 which shows AVI as unsupported.

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

Just downloaded version 1.0 and my .avi files from canon camera (mjpeg) stopped working on my KDL-32EX720 (2011 series) but worked on KDL-40EX700 (2010).
I've found that profiles.xml changed for SONY TVs - inheritance was reversed - and it seems that something was missed.

I've added following to "Sony Bravia TV (2011)" profile

  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
<!-- digital camera video formats -->
            <Matches container="avi" vCodec="mjpeg" />
            <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="mjpeg" />
      </Video>

and it fixed the problem.

Mind that this was not taken from "Sony Bravia TV (2010)" but from "Sony BD Player / SMP" profile.
2010 version didn't showed properly on 2011 TV.

Please update official version

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

It might be best to list the KDL-46NX720 (and related models) under the Sony Bravia 2010 Series profile. Using this NX720 (latest firmware), Serviio 1.0, the Serviio-distributed compiled ffmpeg, and the 2011 profile, I'm unable to list any AVI files (also tested and mentioned by users: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2079&start=190#p44598). Sony's documentation (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/suppor ... KDL46NX720) also seems to indicate no AVI support (though I'd take that with a grain on salt). And even listing it as compatible under the 2010 profile may be stretching things a bit, as the aspect ratio on non-SD AVI's seems to be wonky (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2956)

I've only perused a half-dozen posts on this, so if someone has more updates, please chime in.

ffmpeg info:
ffmpeg version N-42368-gbf53863 Copyright (c) 2000-2012 the FFmpeg developers

The KDL-46NX720 european model may support avi

USA model is probably limited; check with http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=device_sf

With latest Serviio 1.0, aspect ratio should be solved.

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

That's interesting - I can't imagine why Sony would leave AVI support out of the US version (well I can, but I'll leave the conspiracy theorizing for others). I should have mentioned I was using Serviio 1.0, but as I mention in the Aspect Ratio thread, it still seems to be an issue for me. At this point, everything is working well on my BDP-S580 player, but I'd still like to see these issues sorted for those who try to get this working on their TV's after me. The output from Device Spy is below:

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

As you can see, with your US model, video/avi or video/div-x are not supported (not listed on GetProtocolInfo result)
So you have to select "Sony Bravia 2010" profile, avi files will be transcoded to mpegts/mpeg2video (with correct aspect ratio).

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

As of serviio 1.0 this is a problem. I have to switch to 2010 to view avi. But then some of my mp4 files lose audio. So its back to 2011. There should really be a new 2011 (US) profile added. Also DAR issues are worse now. I think I may revert to 0.6.2 until its all sorted out.

I'm not sure we will make a specific US profile on official serviio version. But you can edit the profile.xml to adjust.

Why would you not? There seems to be plenty of US users, and having them all edit the profile manually seems problematic and not a very user friendly decision. Even if we continue to default to International profile because we can't determine location via the RegEx matching, at least having a pre-built profile available in the drop down selection of the console would be extremely helpful and, from what I can tell, easy to do.

Is that just AVI that is the problem? Can we distinguish the US model in the regex?

If we look at the DeviceDescription xml , I'm not sure we could distinguish US/UK/EU/CA model region

Format supported are listed here : http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=dev ... port&#sony

__UPDATE : 08/08/2012 __

- US models don't support AVI/DIVX, should be transcode
- US models don't need the Display Aspect Ratio option
- Detection is removed

Re: [Readme] Sony Bravia 2011 series

I'm wondering if it might not be solved just by a different mime-type - or does the mime-type only help if the file is not even visible when browsing?

I don't think so, if you look at the us sony support, avi/divx are not supported, but I could not test with other mime-type:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/suppor ... KDL46NX720

I seem to remember that there are same limits for some bluray players.

On uk sony support site, same model, avi/divx are supported :
http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/produc ... -solutions : Which codecs are supported by the television set?
