[SOLVED] Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Ive been enjoying Serviio for a while now and with the recent update to allow playlist support, I was hoping to switch over to Serviio for all of my media serving needs (had been using TVersity for playlist support).

I have run into an issue though. I have my playlists all stored in one folder on my server (a whs build). That folder is not in the same folder as my music, so I added the path to the playlist folder within the Serviio client. It seemed to add fine and when I forced a refresh, it picked up the correct number of playlists that were in that folder. So I go over to my xbox and it sees the Serviio server just fine, but none of those playlists are listed in the 'Saved Playlist' section. There are playlists shown, but they are some random playlists that are stored within a couple album folders with my music.

All of my playlists are in the .m3u format.

Could the issue be the fact that I keep the playlists in a seperate folder?

It should work I think. Can you see the playlists in AV Media Controller from Intel tools (see my signature)?

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Alright, I tried out the Intel tool as you suggested, and it is also not showing the playlists under the Serviio section.

Is there something else i need to do in order for Serviio to properly see those playlists? The folder has been added for quite a while, so it has had plenty of time to add 18 files to the library.

Yes, the log does show that the playlists were detected and added to the library.

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Hi

I think I have the same problem with the following setup:

Serviio 1.01
PC Windows 7
Playlists are in m3u format and stored in a separate folder under my Mysic folder

For some strange reason only part of my playlists were listed - added to library. I tried to add a new or remove an already insterted playlist but the library was not refreshed (left it for a day).

Thank you

Have all files that are referenced in your playlists been added to the Serviio library?

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

They are but I'm suspicious that my links are not the format they should. I'm using a NAS and the song is referenced as "\\192.168.1.2\nas\Music\Song". is this correct ? Maybe the list should point directly to the folder like say "\Music\Song" since it is stored on the NAS ?

Thank you for your feedback !

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

It most likely needs to be a local link i.e. "\Music\Song", not a network link.

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Ok, well finally solved it with the advice of friend ' grolschie '. A brief of what I did is the following :

* I export my playlists using iTunes since I like the genius stuff built inside, using the m3u format.
* The m3u file by default includes the network path of the songs included which may be useful if the playlist is kept on the PC where the serviio runs, while the music is kept on a NAS.
* Because I wanted to keep playlists and music on the same folder (NAS), I had to manually edit the path inside m3u file so it points locally and not over the network path. So instead of "\\192.168.1.2\nas\Music\Artist\Song.mp3" I used "Artist\Song.mp3".

Hopefully this can help someone....

P.S. : For some strange reason the *.wpl playlists are viewed even with network path inside..... don't ask me why....

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Well I checked the links in my playlist to see if they were also pointing to a network address, but they are pointing to the local path (i.e. exactly where they are located on the server) for the music.

I aslo checked to see if Serviio was seeing the music in the folder I had added for that and it is. It just wont pass along these playlists.

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Oh and I also tried converting the m3u to a .wpl format, but it still wont show up via Serviio, even though the log clearly shows that the playlist was scanned and added.

My folder structure is as follows:

Media (F:) - Top level folder
1. Music
/Genre/Artist/Album
2. Media
/Custom Playlists

Alright, so based on that info, could it be that my folder structure is throwing off the Serviio Library?

I tried a test where I remoted into my WHS pc and created a playlist on the pc with windows media player. I saved that playlist first to the 'Custom Playlist' folder I mentioned above. I refershed the library, the new file was listed as added in the log, but it still wont show up when checking the intel media tool. Next, I created and saved a playlist to the top level of the 'Music' folder instead, same result.

Then, I decided to try and find out why there were a couple playlists showing up. Like I said before, they were playlists for a couple of albums that sit in the same folder as the music for that album. So I did a test where I drilled down to a specific artist and into an album. I used media player and created a playlist of the songs in that folder only and saved the playlist there with the music. I refreshed the library and what do you know, it works and shows up as you would expect on my 360 and the intel media tool. Just to verify my issue, I then moved that playlist from the album folder to the top level of my music folder and suddenly its no longer seen from the intel tool or my 360

So my feeling is that something is ignoring any playlist unless it is sitting in the folder with the music that is in the playlist. Unfortunately for me, my music is not all in one folder, so this issue keeps me from using a playlist made up of music from several places.

Hopefully this extra info can help narrow down the problem.

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Could the folder security permissions be different on that other folder? You are definitely adding the folder to the library as a music folder?

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Well that could be a problem, so I checked the permissions in 3 locations:

The 'Custom Playlists' folder
The 'Music' Folder
The album folder with a playlist that does show up.

Now remember that the album folder is a sub folder of the music folder. That folder is set to inherit the permissions of the parent folder, i.e. the Music folder. So if it were a permission issue, you would think that simply moving a playlist to the Music folder would solve the problem, but it doesnt. The Custom Playlists folder did have some differences in its settings for sharing/security, but I changed what I could to match the Music folder and it still didnt help.

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Interesting. In the Album folder where the playlist works, can you add other playlists with links to files elsewhere in the library? Or do only files in that folder work in the playlist? Are you able to post a snippet from your playlist file please? It has static links, rather than relative links?

Re: Playlists not showing up on Xbox 360

Well maybe it was the permissions after all.

I said that changing the settings didnt work, but maybe I just hadn't waited long enough. I had been out for a bit and when I came back to try other things, my playlists were showing up, even the ones sitting in the custom playlists folder.

I hope it was the permissions change, otherwise I have no idea why its working now, but I sure am glad.

One related question though, I liked to make a single playlist of my favorite internet radio streams. Is there a way to make that work with Serviio? I use such a playlist now locally on my pc via media player, but that same playlist will not pass through Serviio (it does show as added when I copied it over to my 'custom playlists' folder). Is there a limitation in Serviio that will not allow for a playlist that is made up of urls instead of music files?

I'm glad it's working for you.

The LiveFeeds plugin is what I use. You create your own RSS files containing links to the streams. I host my RSS file on a google page.
