Serviio transcoding techniques

I have an MKV file with a H264/AVC High@L5.1 stream.

I noticed the Serviio "Playstation 3" profile transcodes the H264/AVC stream to MPEG2.

My question is: How come Serviio doesn't re-transcode the H264/AVC @High@5.1 stream to a H264/AVC @High@4.1 stream? Why not keep the same same video codec and only change the level from 5.1 to 4.1?

Does the H264/AVC codec take a lot longer than the MPEG2 codec?

Just curious...

I'm trying to learn Serviio transcoding techniques.

Yes, significantly, whereas MPEG2VIDEO can be done with a single core CPU.

Are we looking at quite a while before Serviio can transcode into an H.264/AVC stream? I wonder how many years it will take until the processors are robust enough to transcode ("on-the-fly") directly into a H.264/AVC stream (in real time). If transcoding "manually" (to H.264/AVC stream) takes hours or sometimes... days, I can only imagine how long we will be waiting until the processors catch up with video codec technology.
