[SOLVED] Unsupported File Format

I have Serviio installed on a Linux machine from which I then stream to my TV.

Most of the video files play fine, but I find some seem to have issues. This morning, the file that I was unable to stream was a .AVI file. I have streamed .AVI files in the past so I'm not sure why this specific one does not work. I can see it the file listed on my TV, but when I go to play it, it says it is an "unsupported file format". However, the file plays just fine on the computer using VLC.

It's just that I can't stream the file to the TV.

Is there a way to update the supported filed formats so that I can play this file?

It's probably the case of a file like that being generally playable without transcoding, but this particular file has been encoded in a way the TV doesn't like. I'd recommend reencoding it manually. This is assuming you are using the right profile for your device.

I had the same problem last night. Everyone of my movies came up saying "unsupported file format". Was ok again when I plugged in the drive the files were located on.

I am also noticing the same problem.

I encoded all my video files using the same "regular high profile" on handbrake to a .mp4 file. It actually turns out to be an .m4v file.

Anyways, I am having trouble with a few of these video files that are marked as "Unsupported File Formats" across all my DLNA devices.

-Several Androids
-Win 7 PC Running XBMC

I tested these files and they work fine across VLC, Windows Media Player, Direct USB Connection to my LG TV, etc... so I know the file works and is compatible.

I think the server just doesn't detect the video file. Out of 200+ video files only 5 are giving me such an error.

Its not just the TV. Its all DLNA/UPnP devices that are experiencing the same problem.

When I use VLC as described in the wiki http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=watch_win the following is shown.



Notice that "Beetlejuice (1988)" (one of the 5 files giving me an error) is shown differently. There is also no codec information available when I look at its properties.

I know that Serviio detects the .m4v file since I see it marked as added when using ServiiDroid. What happens after that is a mystery to me.

I am not sure what the question is... all my files were encoded using the same Handbrake profile and work fine except for a few with errors as described below.

See attachments below, the error of unsupported file format is seen across all my devices. I know the file can be supported since they can be played locally. Also, if it weren't supported via Serviio at least there would be some transcoding done for the Android devices but not even that happens.

Sorry, I meant that some device does not support some Handbrake encoding options (variable framerate, isometric, etc.).
If you always use exactly the same options, it's something else, could you re-encode your file ?

I even copied the file under a different filename, but it was of no use.

Can you post detailed logging of when playing the file?

The file is never played since the unsupported file format error won't allow it to play.

Typically ServiiGo will give you three (3) choices: Original, Medium, and Low. But in this case only the Medium and Low options are displayed and none of them work.

ServiiGo will also display the resolution of the media file, but in this case it shows up as "Unknown".
