Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

I was just forced to rollback to Java 7 Update 5 for those of you who are wondering why Serviio stopped working entirely. FYI it now works fine. Please advise when a new Serviio version or java hotfix has been released to address the issue. I'm on Win7 x64 and running Serviio x64.

EDIT - To be more specific, after updating to this Java version [Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit)] the Serviio service stopped working entirely and could not be forced to start manually. As such, the console could never be made to launch and media sharing was not possible.

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

Problem persists with latest Java 7 Update 7 but I found a workaround for Serviio being unable to detect an installed 64 bit Java version.

When installing Java ensure that 64 bit version is installed 1st then install 32 bit version. The last two Java updates appear to be critical on installation order and for some reason Serviio can't find the 64 bit version if installed last...ODD.

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

On Linux, I am not able to start serviio and I think it may be because of this. I am running the version 1.7.0_07 of java and when I start the serviio.sh, it just comes out without starting the daemon. And it does not say anything as to what happened.

Any ideas on troubleshooting this thing? How can I generate some debug information?

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

I turned on the debug as described in the threads here. My problem turned out to be completely different. For me, the problem was that the entry for my hostname disappeared in /etc/hosts, hence causing the regression. This happened during an upgrade of the distro. So, nothing wrong on Serviio's part.

Can you tell me if you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows? The way it should work is:

- on 32 bit Windows, you should need 32 bit Java
- on 64 bit Windows, you should need 64 bit Java

If this is not the case it might be a bug in the Serviio installer. In that case can you post directory listing of your Serviio/bin folder?

I also have this problem. I allways install Java 32-bit and 64-bit on my system.
Serviio worked fine on "Java 7 Update 7", until I installed Java to "Java 7 update 9" on 64-bit Windows Vista.

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

ok. So for me this problem was related to 32bit/64bit versions of java. I have Win7 64bit and java 32 bit installed. So I uninstalled 32bit java and downloaded the 64 bit version - and woila! Now serviio works once again...

Why do you have both? Try uninstalling all Java versions, install latest 64 bit and give it a try.

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

Both versions, because when it's installed only 64-bit version of Java, the non 64-bit IE and other programs doesn't work properly. But I'll check it out and let you know.
[edit]
Uninstallation and installation of Java again + computer restart, helped.

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

Hello registered to give my input :) Windows 7 x86 BTW

I was searching Google for help as my setup just randomly wouldn't work.

After finding this thread I decided to reinstall Java which didn't work.

I then uninstalled java and serviio, rebooted and reinstalled them both then rebooted and everything worked fine.

I'm not saying Java or serviio was the issue just giving my input to what apparently "fixed" it in case anyone else finds this thread :)

Best regards

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

I had my shares of trouble before when updating Java, but the last few times I killed all processes related to Serviio before doing the upgrade and haven't had any issues. YMMV

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

Hi folks,

Just a quick note to say that I had a similar issue with Serviio not recognising my Java install as I had 32-bit java on 64-bit windows. Looks like the "recommended" version from java.com decided I needed 32-bit because that's what Firefox told it. Having replaced 32-bit java with 64-bit everything seems to be working fine.

If you run into java issues after an install or upgrade (my error was something along the lines of "No JVM found. Add an enrivonment variable at EXE4J_JAVA_HOME or install java from Java.com") then as per zip's post, check you have the right version for your OS.

Ben

P.S. this means I may need to run both versions of Java - awesome. :(

Re: Java 7 Update 6 (64 bit) kills Serviio

Same problem with serviio failing to work after Java 7.45 update after several hours I discovered the 64 bit Java update and the 32 Java bit update MUST be in the same "program files "folder as serviio. Windows 7 default is the " program files" for 32 bit, and "Program files (x86)" for 64 bit....that won't work.

All 3 programs must be in the same OS folder for serviio to work.....mine are in "program files", don't know if "program 86" works the same way but I suspect it does.......gonna go grow some hair to replace what I've pulled out now.
