Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

First of all, I'm new here so Hi to all.

I'm using Serviio since months with Windows and Linux to stream to my Samsung TV and everything has always been smooth.

Now, I just bought a Galaxy Tab 2 (great device) but, altought Allshare works perfectly with it I only can play .mp4 with Serviio.

In Serviio console I see the IP address of my tablet but with a red dot and "Urecognized device" and "Generic DLNA profile".
I can browse all files from my Galaxy only if I try to play something else than .mp4 it says "Unsupported format" (or something similar as I'm running Serviio french).

Searching since yesterday afternoon this forum and through Google I figured out I need a profile or something so I tried this viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4413 but it didn't work. I see the profile in the list on the console but selecting it (with or without transcoding) don't solve the problem.

So i'm a bit stucked.
If one of you is using a Galaxy Tab 2 he could maybe point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,
Jérôme

PS : Please, forgive my bad English

Re: Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I did ;)
And it didn't fix the problem.

My problem is not to turn my Galaxy Tab 2 into a DLNA device, it is already ;)

I can browse files, play mp3, mp4 from Serviio server, both from Linux and Win.
I can play all formats (Divx/Xvid, mkv, mov, mp4, you name it) with Allshare, even Youtube stuffs.

Why Serviio doesn't want to play the same file formats as Alllshare on my GT2 ?
Why it doesn't want to play my beloved .avi ?

Am I the only one trying to watch .avi files from a Serviio server with a Galaxy Tab 2 ?
Am I stucked with Allsare ?

Thanks for your help,
Jérôme

Re: Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

It worked for other galaxy tab users so you are doing something wrong.

For more help you must:
1. Assign the Android profile to your Tablet in the console
2. Turn on detailed Debug log (see my signature)
3. provide details of the file that does not play(see my signature)
4. provide portion of debug log showing where you tried to play the file on your android tab.

Then we will have the info to answer why they won't play.

Hi,

OK, I re-did it all from scratch and after a "404 error" in BubbleUPnp it suddently starts working :) I can stream my .avi from Win and Linux.

Now, I'm left with one issue : DicePlayer doesn't play the subtitles (srt). But I don't even know if this is supported. I've searched their group but didn't find if it was supported. The subtitles work if I copy the .avi and the subs in local and even if I stream the .avi and select the subs manually and locally from the local version.
MXPlayer play the subs but is sooooooooo slow, even with H/W settings, that it's unwatchable.
And Allshare as server and client doesn't display them on my GT2 but it does on my Samsung TV. And Serviio server and Allshare client display subs too on my TV.

I'm supprised by the différence between how Serviio (server PC) works hands-in-hands with Allshare (client) on my Samsung TV and the fact that it doesn't work that way between a PC and the GT2 and that we need BubbleUpnp and a third party player

Anyway, thanks for your help. It was the best one : you said to me "this worked for another GT user, it should work for you". I went on trying and at the end I sorted it out without even going into debug mode ;)

Allshare is a DLNA client and Video player fot your TV. Android is just a base operating system, and requires a DLNA client(BubbleUPnP) and a videoPlayer to work.

You should also try ServiiGo which uses the ServiioAPI rather than DLNA to play access media content and includes an interface to MXPlayer to display subtitles as well.

But I have a Allshare client on my Androïd 4 GT2 as on my tv. And it works with the Allshare server on my PC.
I was expecting it would be the same as on my TV with Serviio as server.
If I run Allshare on my GT2 I can see its local videos with my Allshare client on my TV. It seems then to me that Allshare on the GT2 (Androïd) is a full DLNA client/server.
I'm talking about a Samsun Galaxy Tab 2, it was probably different with the Tab 1.

Sorry if I misunderstood something. I never had any problem with Serviio except now with my GT2 and I'm trying to undersand.
And I want to be sure BubbleUpnp is working before paying for it ;)

I'll have a try at ServiiGo later.

Re: Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I see your point, but the fact that Serviio works with BubbleUpnP but not with Android Allshare indicates to me that Android Allshare is not a compliant DLNA client, and is customized to work with the Allshare server.

Serviio has to do some special things to work with Samsung TV's so perhaps zip can comment on the possibility of implementing similar changes to work with Android Allshare on the Galaxy.

Did you try assigning the Tablet IP address a Samsung profile?

Yes, I've tried all 3 of them (A,B and C/D/E) and even a few others but none works. Except for .mp4 and .mp3
That means to me that servioo (pc) is properly communicating with allshare (tablet) but that we need to find the right profile to transcode .avi (divx/xvid), .mkv and others.

My TV works with C/D/E.

Do you want me to generate a debug log with C/D/E and with an .mp4 and then a .avi to see the difference ?

That would be great to have a profile out of the box that just works without BubbleUpnp.

BTW, I've tried ServiiGo it works with MXPLayer, I have the subs, but it crashes as soon as I seek.

Re: Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I did create debug files of the problem.

On the server Serviio (both on Win and Linux), on the tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2) Allshare client server.
Allshare on the tablet is working properly, I can stream from the tablet to my TV (Samsung) or my laptop.

The problem : On the tablet I can play .mp4 .mp3 from Serviio server on the PC but not .avi, .mkv and so on.

Attached files are :
serviio - mp4.log
A .mp4 that plays on the GT2
serviio - mp4.log
(93.36 KiB) Downloaded 462 times

and
serviio - avi.log
A .avi that's not playing (unrecognized format)
serviio - avi.log
(64.26 KiB) Downloaded 466 times

I'll have a look at these debug files myself but I'm not very familiar with Serviio debug logs so if one can help...

The goal of my research is to be able to play .avi on the tablet without BubbleUpnp. I think it should be possible if we find an appropriate profile to transcode .avi to make them play as .mp4 can.

And my second goal is to get applauses from all GT2 users ;)

ServiiGo crashes, or MXPlayer crashes? The API that ServiiGo uses doesn’t support seeking atm, but it's being worked on for a future release of Serviio.

Good question ;)
I don't know but reading you it's probably Serviigo that crashed as MXPlayer has no problem seeking local files.

ServiiGo doesn't do any video decoding, it's all done by the video player. Do you get a "ServiiGo has crashed..." dialog, as it would be very strange for it to crash ServiiGo.

No, I got nothing, it was frozen and I waited mins before killing it all (rebooted my GT2).
I did it twice with same results.
But anyway, did you have a look at my debug files concerning the point that Serviio server can play .mp4 on the GT2 Allshare client but not .avi ?

Ok, that was MXPlayer locking up. On phone so ill look at the log later if someone else doesn’t get a chance.

The avi log is incomplete. Shows you listing the "H" videos and then exiting serviio, but you never played an avi file

Re: Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

I did play the video, well, tried to.
I exit after Allshare on the tablet told me the file was unplayable.

2012-11-16 18:30:33,202 DEBUG [DeviceDescriptionRequestHandler] Sending DeviceDescription XML back using profile 'Samsung TV / player (C/D/E-series)'
2012-11-16 18:30:47,165 DEBUG [ActionsServerResource] Action with name 'exitServiio' was requested

This happened in the 14 sec between these 2 lines.
It would be interresting to have a debug of Allshare.

Is it possible to create a profile that transcodes .avi to .mp4 ?

I don't know if this can be helpful (output from ffmpeg -i)

Re: Help with a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1

This is beyond my skill level but it seems that Serviio never received the play request. In other words, Allshare decided that it could not play an mpeg4.avi file in native mode which is what the C/D/E profile would have sent it. Since the Galaxy manual says it can play MPEG4.avi files, perhaps the problem is the unusual format of the avi :
[avi @ 0182BEE0] non-interleaved AVI
[mpeg4 @ 0182C800] Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected

Turns out the Galaxy Allshare player cannot play mpeg videos (duh!) so all the Serviio transcoding to mpeg2video will not work.

I don't know if you can create a profile to convert everyhing to h263.flv which is supported. Zip has a profile for mediaplayer that converts everything to flv.flv. Maybe alter it and try.
