Serviio doesn't add and refresh new folders

I’ve got the following problem. I've got a home LAN which includes a windows XP computer, a Gentoo Linux computer and a Samsung TV. I run Serviio 1.0.1 on the Linux computer (RAM 1 GB). Inside my /media folder I’ve got three folders : music, pictures, video. Inside video folder I had two folders : recorded and unrecorded. I decided to add another couple of folders into video folder: video_music and video_travel and created them using midnight commander. For some reason Serviio does not display them with all their content. I am in the process of copying my DVD’s onto my Linux computer and I keep making folders for them in the “recorded” folder mentioned above. Sevriio easily adds them and displays them. What could be the reason for such different results for these folders and how can I make Serviio add and refresh my video_music and video_travel folders?

Re: Serviio doesn't add and refresh new folders

I had a similar issue that drove me crazy as well. It's most likely a permissions issue. View each folders permissions from root to final directory to make sure each folder has correct permission along the way. If you keep all your data in \home\path\to\media\files. Serviio should have read/write to \home, \home\path, \home\path\to,\home\path\to\media,\home\path\to\media\files. if the Linux user that serviio runs as doesn't have read/execute rights to those folders from the beginning of the tree down each folder then it will never find them. At least that was the case with me... and mine works fine now.

Cheers

Re: Serviio doesn't add and refresh new folders

Thank you guys for the replies! I'm very new to Linux and frankly speaking it wasn't me, who initially tuned Serviio on my computer. I'll try to check the issue with the permissions, because I can't resolve the problem of running Serviio console on my Lunux computer from my Windows computer (my Linux computer is working without any periferals including monitor).

If you don't know where to "look" for permissions in Linux then I think you have bigger problems. Take a look at this, it will really help you. http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/filepermissions.html

Read it, understand it, apply it. The more you understand about linux the less you will want to continue using windows lol. :D

Re: Serviio doesn't add and refresh new folders

av1982,
The above link is really what I need at the moment, because I'm a newbie to Linux. It really helps to make first steps.
But before setting all the right permissions to the the right files, I did the following. I took the two folders I had previously created (the ones Serviio couldn't find and refresh) and using the mc moved them into the directory with which Serviio worked properly. Now it finds the folders adds files and refreshes them. So I think that it's either the problem of permissions, or Servioo isn't tuned properly. I have to find, where Serviio keeps its settings and check them onced again. Can you please tell me where the files with Serviio settings are, because I was not able to find this information in the documetation on this site?

In the bin directory you will want to run serviio-console.sh This should bring up the gui to manage the server.
