.mkv files with samsung

Hello,

first of all; Great work with Serviio!

So I was wondering if anyone have som tricks to play .mkv files on a Samsung TV?
If not, you know a software which can convert the .mkv files fast? Till now I have only found converting software which uses around 1hour 15mins on a 800mb file.

Regards!

Re: .mkv files with samsung

with serviio's transcoding capabilities, you should be able to play virtually any media file.

I am guessing that you are getting an error when trying to play mkv's? could you post that? does it work with other videos?
also the model number of your set will be helpfull

When I am trying to open the .mkv file, it just says that the file format is not supported.

I have a Samsung 5-Series(5105)

Re: .mkv files with samsung

Make sure you have the Samsung profile selected. Samsung can play most MKVs without transcoding.

Have double check the profile, and I am sure that I have a Samsung C-Series, still the same error message.

Re: .mkv files with samsung

So everything works but mkv's?

Just to confirm, on the status tab you have the Samsung C\D\E series profile selected for this TV?

If it's only not playing mkv's you may need to make and adjustment to the profile config to transcode mkv's for your TV.

Edit:
Might be easier, but the file that my TV can not open is Two.and.a.Half.Men.S10E12.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.mkv

Re: .mkv files with samsung

If your TV has IP ending with .1.3 then it's using Generic profile, not the Samsung one.

Re: .mkv files with samsung

It ends with 2.20 - As its listed in my console window with Device name Samsung DTV DMR.
However, I am only using this with my TV, so I have tried to change the profile for all devices to Samsung TV / Player (C/D/E-series). Will update asap.

Update:
After I chance all the devices to the samsung profile, it worked. Even though its only my TV which works with Serviio.

So it might seem that Serviio has analyzed wrong and put the Samsung Device name to the wrong IP-Adress. So here is a screenshot of my Status window in Serviio.

Re: .mkv files with samsung

OK, let me try to make some observations..

You have 2 NICs and Serviio uses both to search for renderers:

  Code:
2013-01-06 01:41:56,920 DEBUG [RendererSearchSender] Multicasting SSDP M-SEARCH using interface eth3 (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) and address 192.168.1.46, timeout = 0
2013-01-06 01:41:56,920 DEBUG [RendererSearchSender] Multicasting SSDP M-SEARCH using interface net3 (Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN) and address 192.168.2.17, timeout = 0

You have 2 subnets, .1.x and .2.xx, with the TV on .2.20 IP.

The TV responds to the search correctly:

  Code:
2013-01-06 02:15:22,021 DEBUG [RendererSearchSender] Received a valid M-SEARCH response from Renderer 420b3337-bcc4-a2aa-13a2-9ec471b5ec19 from address /192.168.2.20:57360

This is what you see in the console as Samsung DVR.

When Serviio advertises itself it also uses both NICs, and the TV responds like this:

  Code:
2013-01-06 02:15:24,177 DEBUG [WebServer] Incoming connection from /192.168.1.3:42144
2013-01-06 02:15:24,178 DEBUG [RendererDAOImpl] Reading a Renderer with ip address 192.168.1.3
2013-01-06 02:15:24,178 DEBUG [DeviceDescriptionRequestHandler] DeviceDescription request received for device c48120f2-ff22-3b77-88f3-f16bdd0d2e60 from 192.168.1.3 (headers = [HOST: 192.168.1.46:8895,USER-AGENT: SEC_HHP_Hjemme-TV/1.0,ACCEPT-LANGUAGE: en-us])

From there on it uses the .1.3 IP address to talk to Serviio. What is the .1.3 IP? Any idea what device it belongs to?

Re: .mkv files with samsung

I don't really know. However, we have currently many laptops connected at the same time, so could be some of them.

Just a quick question, is it possible to make to Serviio Meda Browser page available outside my Local Area Network? Like assigning a IP-address instead of http://localhost:23424 - I'm sure there are some guides that I have missed.

Atleast everything is working as it should, so thank you very much! I love Serviio!

Re: .mkv files with samsung

Ideally you want ot have the server and the devices on the same network, it might then work and use just one IP. In this case it looks like the router is interfering somehow.

There is some doc on how to enable MB outside on the website.
