WDTV Live Plus Not Communicating

Hi, new serviio user here.

I have a WDTV Live Plus that supports DLNA.

The WDTV can plan media from my PC via network shares. The serviio console doesn't see the WDTV (it only has the IP of my PC in there, I guess it's seeing itself only?). The WDTV does not see the serviio server. The WDTV does see my Galaxy S3 if I enable DLNA on it.

My PC is Windows 8. I disabled the firewall temporarily and rebooted and that didn't change anything. In devices and printers on the desktop, I see the service as a multimedia device, but it's showing as offline.

I have a Fios Actiontec router. UPNP is enabled on it.

Any ideas? Where do I start in order to try to figure this out?

Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I just installed serviio on a Windows 7 Laptop and the devices see each other and media plays fine. On that PC, there is no serviio at all in multimedia devices. The WDTV does show up in the devices section though and it does not show in that section on the Windows 8 PC. Hopefully this all helps some. Obviously, this rules out the WDTV and the router.

Re: WDTV Live Plus Not Communicating

I have seen a few threads about issues with windows 8, but haven't been following them too closely.

I did read through that thread. Didn't find anything there that would help.

I'm completely stumped at this point.

Re: WDTV Live Plus Not Communicating

Don't give up on me yet.

Made some progress tonight.

I disabled the WLAN on my Windows 7 laptop and connected it via Ethernet and it then communicates with the TV!

So, here's the network.

TV - Ethernet
WDTV - WLAN
Windows 8 PC - Ethernet
Windows 7 PC - WLAN
Samsung Galaxy S3 - WLAN

The WDTV can act as a media player for both the Windows 7 PC and Samsung Galaxy S3.

The TV can act as a media player for the Windows 8 PC.

If I connect the Windows 7 PC via Ethernet, then the TV sees it and the WDTV doesn't.

The TV can't act as a media player for the Samsung Galaxy S3 nor can they see each other to use the Galaxy S3 as a wireless remote.

Why can my wireless devices talk to each other and my wired devices talk to each other, but the wireless devices can't talk to the wired devices?!

Connecting a different router might be an option, but it'd be a big PITA since I have Fios and need the router in place for the coax connection. I supposed I could connect another router without internet access, but not sure how valid a test that would be or if any devices would act up without having internet access.

Any ideas?

Re: WDTV Live Plus Not Communicating

So that I don't leave this hanging, I did ultimately figure it out.

I finally realized it was a wired vs wireless thing. wireless devices weren't talking to wired devices with media type connectivity.

Found this thread
http://businessforums.verizon.net/t5/Fi ... d-p/461359

And I disabled the IGMP proxy in my router. All good now.

Few others with the same issue. It only affects people who have a combination of wired and wireless devices and who have the latest Fios router (most people don't) and the recent firmware update. Definitely something Verizon is going to need to fix as IGMP proxy enabled is the default.

Re: WDTV Live Plus Not Communicating

alot of newer ISP provided routers appear to be doing this, I got a call from a cable user the other day who got a new modem and had the exact same issue.
