some videos skip or end prematurely

First, I just want to thank the creators of Serviio for releasing some excellent software. Overall, it works very nicely running on my Win7 (x64) system and serving up videos for my Panasonic TC-P50UT50. I am currently running Serviio version 1.0.1, and using the custom profile "Panasonic Viera w/ AVI, MOV, MP4, 3GP (by huyz)" which I found on this site and allowed me to play a bunch of video formats that weren't initially recognized by the Panasonic.

The problem I have encountered is that some videos seem to spontaneously skip from one section to another, or abruptly stop playing before the end of the video. I have tested this a few times and the problem is reproducible. It does not happen with all of my videos, but just some small subset. I cannot find a common thread between the videos and they all play perfectly fine on the PC itself using Windows Media Player classic, but skip while watching on the Panasonic.

Any ideas what could be causing the skipping behavior?

Thanks!

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

Having the same problem on my 2012 ST50 in terms of videos ending abruptly. It also only happens on certain videos. They typically will stop abruptly after 4-5 minutes and say "Cannot read file". Never happened in 1.0. I made a new thread and did not see this one posted already so I deleted it. Hopefully I don't need to drop back down to 1.0.

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

Frankie15, do you know of any downside to downgrading to 1.0 ?

Version 1.0.1 is the first I've used, but I would be willing to downgrade to 1.0 if that solves the problem. I searched the Serviio website, but I can't seem to find download links for version 1.0. I did find it from another site, but I'd like to verify it is legit before trying to install it. Could Serviio admins or someone please post a hash or checksum of the 1.0 Windows installer? That would be appreciated.

Also, does anyone know if I will be able to use huyz's custom Panasonic profile with version 1.0 ?

Finally, a DLNA newbie question I guess. I'm wondering if Serviio transcodes all of the files in advance or does it transcode them on-the-fly, or some combination of both of those?

Thanks for any assistance!

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

I dropped down to Version 1.0 and put the profiles back from 1.0 (didn't fully uninstall properly), but the issue remains. I could have sworn I didn't have this issue on 1.0. Maybe I never tried the videos that are having this issue previously on 1.0. It is quite annoying. Hopefully it can be fixed.

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

I have exactly the same problem, i am using Serviio 1.0.1 and have a Panasonic 2012 ST50.The end gets cut off on some TV shows .
Others stop part way through and say Please Wait, and then Cannot Read File, although more often than not i can press the Back button, wait a minute or so then play, and it will play ok.Other times i have to turn TV off, turn it back on, go to Network Test on Panasonic, once it has said it was successful i go back and program will play.
With the TV shows that end with a minute or so to go they will not play the end no matter what i do.
It also happens via my wife's PC which has a seperate Serviio running.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

Hello moltra,
I wasnt sure which file it was in the Log folder but i went to upload servio file and it said was too large (1868kb) and i went to upload serviio.log.4 and it said it didnt accept file with 4 on the end, but this file is also over 500kb (1205kb).

Let me know what to do and i will do it.

Thanks.

ps my wife suggested to let you know it never used to cut shows off at the end, it has only been happening about a week or two.

I'm attaching the serviio.log file with DEBUG enabled which was captured during the playing of a file which consistently stops around 1 minute prior to the end of the file when played through Serviio.

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

It's due to the fact Serviio doesn't deal very well with time to bytes conversion currently, so when the TV asks for seconds 100 - 300 (if 300 is the end of the video), it might not get all the bytes. I've hopfully improved it for 1.1.

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

OK, thanks for that info, zip. When is the 1.1 version expected to be released?

Also, a similar problem is seen when pausing and then playing videos. When un-paused, some videos restart anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes from the time when they were paused. Is this also expected to be fixed with the 1.1 release?

Thank you!

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

I have this problem a lot, even since the update. It's always with .mp4 files. I've not yet tried changing the extension to .avi as the above poster suggested - I will try this tonight and see if it fixes the problem, and I will post a detailed log later tonight as I've just downloaded a tv show that nearly always skips the last few minutes. I really hope this can be fixed though - it's frustrating 'cause often it's the climax of the episode that gets cut off!

EDIT: I have tried the above poster's suggestion and (so far) changing the extension from .mp4 to .avi appears to fix the problem. Obviously this is a workaround and not a fix per se... is there any chance someone might be able to figure out why there seems to be this problem with mp4 files?

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

I have the same problem although mostly the .avi becomes out of sync with the audio when playing...

I've tried changing the extension from .mp4 to .avi and it didn't work. I own a ET5, but some .mp4 play with no issues at all...

The log file is here. Sorry, if it's too big, i don't know how to clean it up

These are the ffmpeg from the .avi and the .mp4 (original extension):

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

I am still having the same problems with my ST50a, programs stop with approx 30-60 seconds before end, and also just stopping part way through , saying please wait and the Cannot Read File.I can work around the Cannot Read file sometimes by going backwards to movie list and waiting a minute or two (if at all) and when thumbnail returns i can then press play again.
It has got that bad my wife wont use Serviio much now and has reverted to using USB sticks.
I have had Panasonic out and they have replaced the main motherboard in the TV, which made no difference.
The updates to Serviio have also made no difference.

Re: some videos skip or end prematurely

Hi

Any news on this problem being fixed, or a workaround ? I have the same problem with mp4s cutting off before the end. Some work when renamed to avi, but many are the same. I'm using Serviio 1.2.1 on a Sony bdp490.
Perhaps there is a solution elsewhere on the forum that I've not found.
Thanks in advance.
