Serviio disconnects when Mac goes to sleep

Hi,

This is a recent issue, probably due to a Mac OSX upgrade.

Whenever my Mac goes to sleep, my Serviio stops working.
I think this is a part of a greater problem; whenever my Mac goes to sleep, my wifi connection is lost (i.e. my utorrent also stops working).

So while this might not be a Serviio related issue, i was wondering if any other Serviio Mac uses have suggestions/fixes for this problem.

I could change my settings to never let my Mac go to sleep, however, i don't think this is "good" for the Mac.
Similarly, I could use a variety of applications which prevent sleep, again, i don't think this is "good" for my Mac.

The Mac Energy Saver settings has "put hard disk to sleep when possible" and "wake for network access" options.
I presently have both checked, though i'm not certain if a different combination would work better.

If your computer is sleeping Serviio will not work - it needs access you your drives, network, etc.

When a computer goes to sleep, it .... goes to sleep.
Are you expecting your computer to "go to sleep", but still have the CPU, RAM, storage, wifi running so serviio still work ?

I think you are mistaking "go to sleep" (which actually can be 2 things : ram suspend (quick => only the RAM (volatile memory) is powered to keep its state) or suspend to disk (RAM state flushed to the hard drive and machine completely off) with "the screen goes black".

In some rare case, wired LAN adapters can be set-up to react to Wake-On-Lan (WOL) packets and wake their hosting computer. I've never heard of wifi adapters having any kind of WOL feature.

OSX/MacOS has a feature ("powernap") where it is able to temporarily wake up the computer to check for network updates for its icloud services (mail, calendar....), and then the machine heads straight back to sleep.

You send a machine to sleep when you are not using it. When serviio is running, it is making your computer work. So no, this makes no sense.
Some apps, well designed, have a setting allowing it to precisely prevent the OS from going to sleep. When it is not the case, just use an utility app such as amphetamine.
