Missing Files

Hello All,

So I have been using Serviio for 6-8 months now and I REALLY like it. I have seen that many people have had various issues seeing all files using Serviio, and most of them are for different reasons, But since the beginning I have been dealing with an issue I cannot figure out. Most of my videos come up with no issues, but sometimes I have videos that only show up when I browse to the folder (so they don't show up in 'Movies' 'Titles' 'Directors' but I can see them in 'Folders' when I browse down). Most of those were my young daughter's movies (kids movies) so I didn't worry about it much, but I just assumed Serviio didn't recognize the metadata or something and thus wouldn't see the files to put them in all folders, but would at least show them in the folder view. But now, I have all 3 Lord of the Ring movies that are in .mp4 (sorry I don't know more details off the top of my head), and I cannot get Serviio to see the files at all... Any thoughts on how to correct this?

I have tried to reinstall the application (multiple PCs just incase) and tried to delete all drives and add them back into Serviio and no luck. All of my media is locally attached to my PC.

Thank you for any help you may have... :D

--- (additional) Okay, so I did some more searching about my Lord of the Rings, and I think that is because they have a DRM on them... any thoughts about some of my other movies? Why would they only show up in the 'folders' folder and not 'Movies' 'Titles' and so on?

Re: Missing Files

You are correct - most of what you have experienced is to do with Serviio not getting the metadata details - see here for details. As an example, I have the three LotR files, named:

The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001).mp4
The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers (2002).mp4
The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King (2003).mp4
Rename your files as above, and metadata will be forthcoming (after you refresh your library and after we work out why they are not showing under folders). Have a look at my post here for general hints on file name matching for your daughter's movies.

The second part of your post (the files not showing up in the folders category) is a little more difficult. Can you please provide details of:
  • What TV(s) or other renderers are you using?
  • What renderer profile was assigned to that TV?
  • Does the file appear under folders if viewed in MediaBrowser (must be a Pro user or within 15 day evaluation period)?
  • MediaInfo details of one of the files - see here for details of what is required.

Re: Missing Files

Thank you for your reply. I will have a look at some naming conventions to see how that helps. I first have to correct one thing I found already in which my files still have the DRM on them :o . I think once I remove the DRM I will be good with those, however if at all possible I would like all of my movie to show up in the 'Movies' folder. I notice that everything that is not in the 'Movies' 'Series' 'Titles' folders does not have any metadata and no thumbnail (it does, but its a local frame from the video).

Here is an example of a file that only shows in 'Folders'. It is a Veggie Tales movie of my daughter's. Let me ask this. If the movie is not listed at http://www.themoviedb.org, then does that mean serviio will not place it anywhere but the 'Folders' option for me?

Re: Missing Files

Yes, DRM is not supported by DLNA.
Also, yes, without metadata the file is catalogued only under the Folders category in the library.

However all is not lost - if a movie isn't in tmdb, then you have a couple of choices. You can either subscribe to tmdb and add the movie to their database (it's a community database so this is encouraged, others can then benefit) or you can use one of the off-line methods for creating local metadata files (eg. create an .nfo file for your movie as per the link in my previous post).

Re: Missing Files

Removing the DRM has fixed my LOTR movies, and the naming convention for my files has fixed my other problems. I now enjoy all of my movies WITH metadata. Thanks for the heads up on being able to add titles to themoviedb as it helped me a lot.
