help for a total noob

I have downloaded and installed this software, and read the "getting started" page but I'm still not even sure what it does or how to use it.

I know what I WANT to do - which is have a music library on my NAS or a Linux server, browse it and choose what to listen to on my Windows 7 PC, and have my Marantz NA7004 actually play it through my hifi.

Am I in the right place?

Re: help for a total noob

I looked up the specs for your Marantz, and it supports DLNA. So yes, it will stream music from Serviio or other DLNA system (such as a Windows 7 PC). I don't know (but doubt) that you can select the music from the PC and send it to the Marantz. If the music is on the PC, then yes the PlayTo ability of Windows 7 allows you to select the music and send it to the Marantz. But from what I understand Serviio is not recognized by Windows for this purpose. I can see my Serviio box from within Windows Media Player, but if I browse for files it always says there are none. So it seems you would need to select your music from the Marantz interface.

It looks like there is a web interface for the Marantz, so that would seem to be the best bet for your music selection. That should allow you to choose your music from the PC.

Re: help for a total noob

Thanks for your help.

There is a web interface, but it has zero features and is very, very slow and unresponsive. There's also an Android app, but that too is very slow and unresponsive.

The "Play To" on WMP only seems to work with media I have on my PC, it won't talk to the NAS.

So I guess you're right, I'm limited to the Marantz remote control.

Are any firmware updates available for the Marantz? Perhaps they've improved the browser interface. One can hope! :D
