No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

I installed Serviio yesterday and while it initially could connect between my laptop and my television, it hasn't been able to connect since. I believe I've forwarded the port correctly, and I've attached a screen shot of that page from my Netgear R6300 router. I've also attached the Serviio log.

I don't have this issue with other services i.e. PS3 Media Server or XBMC. It's just that I happen to like Serviio better, from what I've been able to see.

Thanks.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

So now randomly (as happens), I can view video on my television, even though the Connectivity Status in the console displays a red x beside it when I test. Not sure how to achieve a reliable connection...

Thanks.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

The Connectivity status button shows whether your PC is reachable for external access by MediaBrowser. While it should still show a green tick, it is not necessarily related to your TV not connecting via your internal network.

For MediaBrowser connectivity from external locations, try removing the manual port forward and ensuring UPnP is enabled in your router. Tick the "Automatically configure your router" option. This is generally all you need.

For your loss of TV connectivity, some queries: what OS are you running? Does your laptop go to sleep at any stage? If you reboot your laptop, is connectivity restored?

Thanks for your reply, DenyAll.

Done.

> what OS are you running?

Windows 7 Home Premium.

> Does your laptop go to sleep at any stage?

Never.

> If you reboot your laptop, is connectivity restored?

Unfortunately not. And yesterday it worked fine when I tried to use it; today it doesn't connect at all.

Still wrapping my head around what you are seeing. Does Serviio work fine some after starting your PC, but not other times... and if that is the case, if it is working, it remains working until after you restart the PC (and then it may or may not work)?

Try delaying the start up of the Serviio service by making the service dependant on the SSDP service. To do this, from an elevated command prompt type: sc config Serviio depend= SSDPSRV

One other thing to check, although I doubt it would cause a problem on your internal network. Is your Serviio computer using a static IP address, or is it being assigned during bootup? Sometimes a changing IP address can cause issues.

It's hit or miss at all times. But no connectivity in the past couple days.

I get an access denied message. See attached please. I've also attached a photo of my television screen, which has no icon beside Serviio. When Serviio isn't running, it says there are no DLNA connections on my tv, but when it is running and not connecting properly, this is how it looks.

Thanks again.

There appears to be a list of IP addresses, with 192.168.1.6 being the correct one. More often than not, it has a green dot, but sometimes it goes red... Please see attached. And although I saved the Bound IP Address as Automatic, it reverts back to 192.168.1.101. Not sure if this is what you're talking about? Thanks.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

Sorry, just getting back to this. The error you get when trying sc config Serviio depend= SSDPSRV suggests you didn't run it as an elevated command prompt. You need to type cmd in the start menu and then right click on the cmd.exe that appears. Select Run as Administrator. You should be fine then to run the command.

And my apologies for taking a week to respond, but my laptop was being repaired. Tried that command as Administrator and it was successful. Having said that, Serviio is back up and running smoothly right now... Thanks very much for all your help. I'll check back in if it stops. Regards.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

Ugh. So while sc config Serviio depend= SSDPSRV still produces a successful result, the server is once again unavailable on my tv. The other weird thing is that Check connectivity status is greyed out within the Serviio console. Any ideas?

I suspect the 15 day evaluation period for Serviio Pro features has expired (to confirm, check the About tab - it is now showing "Serviio Free"). The connectivity status option only applies to connectivity to the internet, used by MediaBrowser and third party apps - these are only available to the PRO version of Serviio - it has no direct bearing on whether your TV's will connect or not.

When it is not connecting, does restarting the Serviio service fix the issue? I think its time to get a detailed log. Turn on detailed logging, restart your PC and wait for Serviio to disappear. Post the log to the forum and lets have a look.

NO, it really is hit or miss i.e. when I just turned on the detailed log and restarted the computer, it couldn't connect. No other DLNA service has this problem i.e. JRiver, etc.

I'm attaching the log file. Thanks so much for your help.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

So, I can see what the problem is (if not the why). Serviio is binding to the loopback address 127.0.0.1, rather than the IP address of your server.

Can you try forcing Serviio to bind to your IP address by:
  • In Serviio console, setting the Bound IP address to your servers IP (192.168.1.101 ?). Remember to press save.
  • If this doesn't work, try adding the following to the ServiioService.exe.vmoptions file (located in the serviio\bin folder. Edit with any text editor)

      -Dserviio.boundAddr=192.168.1.101
Restart your PC (or the Serviio service using services.msc if you know how to do that) after making the changes.

Ugh, it might be a few days since my tv was zapped by lightening last night (Toronto got hit hard)... didn't wanna leave you hanging and seem rude. I'll be back after Panasonic does whatever they're going to do. Thanks.

Holy mother. That is quite scary to hear.

BTW: My experience with Serviio and Panasonic ST60 is that if I restart Serviio after making some changes in the profiles etc or settings, then the Media Server (client) on the Viera will generally fail to connect to the Serviio server. Some times, I have to switch off the TV, switch it back on, wait for the TV network adapter to get an IP and then launch the Media Server app on Viera.

Keep in mind, I was using wifi earlier and things were very unpredictable. Now with wired connection at both ends, at least I have got this far.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

Hmmmmm... thanks for sharing your experiene TheXman. Turns out it was the sound bar the blew and not the television, so I can indeed play around with this again.

> Can you try forcing Serviio to bind to your IP address by:

I don't seem to be able to do this. Under Bound IP Address, I have a dropdown with two options - Automatically detected and 192.168.1.6. Is there another area besides the bottom of the Status Tab where I can alter this setting?

> If this doesn't work, try adding the following to the ServiioService.exe.vmoptions file (located in the serviio\bin folder. Edit with any text editor)

I tried this (see attached) and restarted my computer, but no connection on the tv.

Sorry, this must be a real pain. Thanks for the help.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

Automatically detected and 192.168.1.6.
Weird - this suggests Serviio detects a WIC card with an assigned IP address of 192.168.1.6. Do you have more than one adaptor? Any idea why it would think you are on 192.168.1.6 (does this addess mean anything to you?).

Can you, from a cmd prompt, run IPCONFIG /ALL. This will list all adaptors on your PC and what IP address has been assigned.

Also, how are you assigning your PC's IP address - via a reservation list on your router or via a static address on the interface cards (ie. via Windows). You haven't got a conflict there (ie. in one you have 1.6 and the other 1.101? Shouldn't work but...).

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

From the earlier screenshot it appear that your Panasonic TV is using the 192.168.1.6 IP address. And in the later post your Serviio computer is using the same IP address (which you get in the bound to adapter drop down list).

I suggest you turn off both devices first, start one first, wait five minutes and then start the other one. If you are not using static IP on both the TV and the computer then you will get no conflicts.

Re: No Connectivity on VIERA TC-P55ST50

... and looking at the OP it looks like Serviio had the 192.168.1.8 address.

Although not a requirement for Serviio, I'd recommend setting reserved IP addresses for your Serviio server, at the very minimum, and also for each TV/renderer. In your router you can reserve addresses under Advanced, Setup, LAN Setup.
