SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

Hi,

First of all: the Sony finds the other DLNA server (DVBViewer) on the network and plays íts contents. So there's nothing totally wrong with the Sony.
Secondly: another Samsung LE 32C590 on the same network works just fine with Serviio, so there's nothing totally wrong with Serviio.

In the beginning Serviio didn't list the Sony at all. Then I added the Sony Bravia (2013) profile, restarted and then the Sony was at least found by Serviio (with Generic DLNA profile selected) but still nothing there vice versa. The last thing I tried was selecting the Sony Bravia (2012) and Sony Bravia (2013) profile. Did not help.

I'm stuck. Because the Sony works seamlessly with DVBViewer I guess the problem is rather on Serviio's end.

Regards,
Jörg

In the status tab in console have you set the bound IP address to the right network card ?

OK, once again:

"Secondly: another Samsung LE 32C590 on the same network works just fine with Serviio, so there's nothing totally wrong with Serviio." - and the IP-settings.

Re: SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

Regardless of the profile serviio should see the device, the profiles just tell serviio which files to play natively or transcode.

So restarting Serviio it can see the Sony but not vice versa.... so is DVBViewer on the same PC or just "the same network" indicating its on another device ? If its not on the same PC, per the Serviio PC, what OS are you running and what firewall ?

Just to help build the picture so people can help you, is this wired or wifi ? What router have you got ?

Re: SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

Both, DVBViewer and Serviio run on the same PC. DVBViewer *and* Serviio are *both* found by and working with a Samsung TV, a Nexus tablet and two PCs running VLC. Those devices are either connected via LAN or WLAN. Everything works perfectly.

It's just the Sony Bravia which doesn't 'see' Serviio.

The Sony Bravia's 'Connected Devices' just shows DVBViewer - or nothing if you turn DVBViewer off.

Re: SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

To double check, have you updated your tv to the latest firmware ? Version vPKG3.504EUA was released 11 July 2013 which features "Increase your TV experience by improving the performance of internet services and applications." Its a vague description but could be related to DLNA services as well.

The Sony came with 3.504 - so it's up-to-date.

Re: SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

From your console view Serviio can see the tv, its detected, it has green status and as you've said everything else works perfectly and is up to date.

From posts on other forums sometimes the tv can get confused or misbehave and its resolved by doing a factory reset on the tv. Given everything else is working, setup correctly your running short of options so worth a shot and only takes a minute. You could set the tv to have a manual IP address (if not done already) as this can often help on problematic detection.

From your Nexus table you could installed Sony Media Remote, just to check it can find the set ok on the network. If you have skifta as well (both free apps) see if you can use Skifta to send Serviio content to the tv. Do both apps find the tv, can they operate it.

I appreciate everything else works but doing these steps might well help flush out what the problem is.

And I tried with DVBViewer turned off, just to make sure it doesn't interfere - no difference.

Re: SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

1) The TV's got a fixed IP.
2) I switched from one access point to another - no difference.
3) I tried streaming Serviio content via BubbleUPnP (which shows the Bravia as a renderer) on the Nexus and - voilá - the Bravia plays anything I got in my library instantaneously. Start, stop, scrubbing, volume, SD, HD, multi-language ... everything works perfectly. But still the Sony doesn't list Serviio as an available server.

As far as I understand UpnP - correct me if I'm wrong - BubbleUPnP just acts as a remote telling the Bravia where to get the content what to do with it - the content is not passed through the Nexus/BubbleUPnP. If that's right the Bravia can obviously talk to Serviio - somehow.

It seems as if there's something in Serviio's initial handshake the Sony doesn't like or makes it think 'no server'/'not worth listing'.

So post your log file from Serviio and we can see if its Serviio having a problem.

New log files (with DEBUG on): http://www.jgid.de/_site/zip/serviio-logs-02.zip

History starting 2013-07-22 09:50:

1) Switched Bravia on
2) Ran Bravia's Server Diagnosis: result: nothing found (DVBViewer's UPnP server is switched off, otherwise it would have been found)
3) Played video on the Bravia via BubbleUPnP

Do you try with "Generic Profile" selected on serviio console for your Sony device ?

Also the log files seem to vary the version of serviio installed and java version being used.

Do you keep uninstalling JRE and Serviio and trying different versions ?

Due to HD crash I had to un-/re-install some components a few months ago. During that process JRE was obviously downgraded. But that was it.

Re: SONY KDL-42W655A does not find Serviio

ic but your still on an old version on 1.1 according to your logs and latest version is 1.2.1

The latest release contains several features that could help with your problem to do with network discovery etc... I'd suggest you upgrade to 1.2.1
