Need simple explanation how to fix subtitles problem

Hi to all.

Today I installed Serviio (after some troubles with other DLNA servers) for the first time and I was surprised how good it worked.

But I have some problems regarding the subtitles and need help. When I play some video files subtitles are shown but letters are extremely small and unreadable. Also some character’s in very few subtitles are not shown properly.

I looked several topics and explanation in the forum about these problems but didn’t understand a lot of it. So can someone explain to me in simple step by step way what I have to do fix this font size and some character’s not shown properly problems?

Thank you

P.S

I tried a program called “Convert SRT to SSA” to create ssa subtitles. I have placed these subtitles in the same folder with the same name as video file but with no success. I also create mkv files with imported ssa subtitles and again with no success. DLNA device refused to play some of this mkv files with a message that file is not supported or it’s corrupted or something like that.

What is your device and what are your subtitles settings details? You can only change the size via ass file if you burn the subtitles in. Otherwise it's up to the renderer how it displays subtitles (e.g. my Samsung supports text size via the remote controller menu)

Re: Need simple explanation how to fix subtitles problem

Device is Sony BDP-S490. I am using Sony BDP-Sx90 (2012) profile. In Delivery/Subtitle menu i checked all option and enable burn in subtitles is set to "Always".
Now files are in srt format. And when i play video files subtitles are shown with no problem (some caracters are not shown properly and size of the letters is too small). Now i am using another program (Aegisub) to change encoding from CP1250 or CP1251 to UTF-8 and to create .ssa subtitles. In the ssa subtitle the only thing that i changed was font size. This ssa subtitle have exactly the same name as video file and srt subtitle exept the extension whitch in this case is ssa. Afther all this i removed srt subtitle from the folder and in the folder are just video file and ssa subtitle.
Now with all this i belive that subtitle should be displayed exactly as i want to but when i tried to play this video file no subtitle is displayed or the file refuse to play or the screen is going black and indicator is saying that video file is loading but it never started to play.
So where i am making a mistake and please give me simple step by step explanation how can i fix this problem.

Re: Need simple explanation how to fix subtitles problem

Try to disable Embedded subtitles (as you have external file anyway). If it still doesn't work, post detailed log of playing the file.
