Serviio 1.3: Samsung E-series subtitles stopped working

Have been using 1.2.1 for a long time now. Everything worked fine. Then I updated to 1.3 and many subtitles stopped working. My TV is Samsung ES7005.

I wrestled several hours with the issue but no avail. Oddly some lines of the particular subtitle file were rendered by the TV, but at least 90% of them were not. So when I watched a TV-series with a (.sub) subtitle, it showed one textline here and there, but maybe 9 lines out of 10 were not rendered at all. TV profile was set as it should have been and I tried "update install" and fresh install but this bug still persisted. Going back to 1.2.1 was the only option to fix this issue.

Same issue with F7005 Samsung. Everything was fine with the subtitles until the update, now I can not adjust any subtitle options when playing files. Also as mentioned, about 90-95% of the subtitles doesn't show, but sometimes there are random subtitles popping up.

Edit: Went back to old version and everything is fine again.

What subtitles settings do you have in the console? Turn off burned-in subtitles and embedded subtitles and try again

Same 1.3 and 1.3.1 but 1.2.1 works great.

Re: Serviio 1.3: Samsung E-series subtitles stopped working

Workaround for everyone who drifts to here:
1. Install Serviio 1.2.1
2. Take a backup of ffmpeg.exe from [serviio 1.2.1 install directory]\lib\
3. Install serviio 1.3.1
4. Copy over the backup of ffmpeg.exe to [serviio 1.3.1 install directory]\lib\

Works for me.

Re: Serviio 1.3: Samsung E-series subtitles stopped working

I have a Samsung F TV and I am using Serviio for PC harddisk and Seagate NAS.

So far I have not seen any subtitles.
I use 1.3.1 where the size of ffmpeg is 14219 KB.
I searched on the net and found the latest version ffmpeg to be 9902 KB.

Is the latter the correct version to use?
What size have the 1.2.1 version talked about here?

On Samsung TV I have tried the Serviio, NAS and PC alternatives.
I have only Serviio running on the computer - not Samsung link which has been installed and set up.
No subtitles so far.

Please advise me. Thanks

Make sure you have selected the right profile for your TV and name the subtitles properly (same name as the video)

Re: Serviio 1.3: Samsung E-series subtitles stopped working

Thanks for your reply.

1. What do you mean by setting the right profile for Samsung? Where?

2. Yes the sudtitle files in this case are identical to the mp4-file except for the ending _eng or _swe. Is this correct?

3. Which of the files ffmpeg should I use or does it not matter?

I need help to solve this, thanks.

profiles - Getting started guide: http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... ticle&id=5
subtitles - http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=33

You will have to use the language code in the console, unless you have a default file (without the _eng)

Re: Serviio 1.3: Samsung E-series subtitles stopped working

Thank you very much.

It is working now after:
1. Moving all the subtitle files in a subfolder just keeping the used one in the video folder.
2. Not using any _eng endings. (Not very good because I use several languages).
3. I have some language profile settings - but exactly which setting do you mean?
4. With this It is also working for my NAS storage.

Works for me.

However this doesn't work with 1.4x anymore. With 1.4 I lost _all_ .sub rendering. Only .srt:s work anymore. Wasn't 1.4 supposed to have a better support for different encodings etc? I cant see _any_ line of _any_ .sub, neither with or without scandic characters. So... still stuck at 1.3.1 with ffmpeg from 1.2.

Re: Serviio 1.3: Samsung E-series subtitles stopped working

I think FFmpeg might have some issues when the encoding you provide in the console is different to the one of the file.

You could try the latest FFmpeg.
