Windows Phone 8

I have a Nokia 920 phone, and I installed an app called MyMediaHub. It streams from my Windows 7 computers with no issue, but refuses to play anything from my Serviio box, regardless of the video type. I've tried the generic profile, WDTV and PS3 and others with no success. I then tried the XBox 360 profile and thought I found the fix. It begins loading the video file, then stops. The banner on the phone app says it is opening the file, then suddenly closes it. Hitting play just repeats the process.

Since it streams from the Win 7 boxes (even 1080p Blu-Ray rips, although there's network speed issues with those) I'm sure it's just a transcoding issue. I just don't know where to begin.

Any ideas, anyone?

If you can see what support it has then you can edit the profile like so

Windows Phone 8

Windows Phone 8 will play wma/wmv streams, so you could try to convert the wp8 profile to a "normal", selectable profile. Check the link posted above for more info. The wp8 profile is in the advanced_profile.xml file.

I'll try to get to that tonight if I can. funny thing was from Serviio I can't even play a wmv file. Only have one or two, with most being mpg or mkv.

Thanks to you and slyguy42o. I'm sure we'll get it working. :D

Well that went nowhere fast. The Nokia doesn't show up when I try a uPnP scan of my network. It sees my media servers, TV and Sony SNP-N200, but no phone.

I did try a WMV file, and it plays. I guess that's the only format I can use. Not important enough to recode hundreds of movies.

Well, I activated that profile. Now it won't even play a wmv file.

Re: Windows Phone 8

Hi

I have been developing the Serviiew Windoes Phone CDS playback application. It is pretty much good to go except one thing. Video playback. I had the wp8 profile made from what the development wp8 emulator could handle as I have not had access to a real wp8 device. I now have and guess what. Playback does not work.

Apparently a application is available (myMedia WP7) that can playback from TVersity. As this also uses ffmpeg for transcoding my thought is that this should be possible to get to work. I have gotten hold of the profile used by myMedia WP7 (attached) but as I am no expert on ffmpeg, containers, codecs etc. I need help "converting" this to a Serviio profile. Anyone able to assist?

Yes if you provide me with the email of your MS account associated with your phone, then I can add you to the beta testers and you will have access.

Has there been any progress on a WP8 profile?

Serviio has been brilliant, but I can't get it broadcasting to apps on my Lumia 720 using myMediaHub

Re: Windows Phone 8

Let me ask for some assistance again. Since I've learned a little more about transcoding, I thought I'd take a swag at this again.

Serviio is currently shipping with a transcoding profile for Windows 8/RT. It does not work for Windows Phone 8. Looking at the profile, if I am understanding it right, it is trying to transcode all video files to either mpegts or asf. The line with mpegts doesn't list a target Vcodec, and asf lists wmv2. I believe Phone 8 will need wmv9, but I don't know if that's an accepted format for ffmpeg.

I tried using a line from another profile to try rendering everything
<Video targetContainer="applehttp" targetVcodec="h264" maxVBitrate="3000" targetACodec="aac">
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="ac3" />
</Video>

Any suggestions? The phone is supposed to support h264 video, but have I entered it in the right place? I'm using an app called myMediaHub, and it sees all my DLNA computers. If I play it from Windows 7 media streamer, they all play. However, I much prefer Serviio's presentation, as well as the ability to control the bitrate.

Re: Windows Phone 8

OK, looked at the profile. I copied it into the profiles file, but it said there was a duplicate name. I am assuming that Serviio loads both files. I changed the profile name and started Serviio. However, on the status panel there is no drop down option for Windows Phone 8, only Windows 8/RT. That profile doesn't work on the phone.

So how is the Phone profile supposed to be selected? :?

Re: Windows Phone 8

OK, enabled the Windows Phone 8 profile. Still get an invalid file format on everything I've tried. I've made no tweaks to the profile. At work right now, so can't look at it. Is there is particular video format that should work the best on the phone?

It sure looks like that is what is supposed to be output looking at the profile. But I cannot play anything other than native MP4. When I try playing anything else, I get an incompatible format error. Even with WMV! I would have thought a Windows phone would support a Microsoft media format.

There must be something inaccurate that I'm missing in the profile. If we can make the Roku stream, then we should be able to get the W Phone to work as well. They both play MP4/h264 natively. I even tried pasting the Chaneru transcoding profile in its place, since they both need the same output. No luck. Can't stream anything other than mp4 files.
