Serviio UPnP Discovery Process

My Samsung HDTV takes anywhere from 20 to 65 seconds to find the Serviio server. Are there any Serviio server UPnP settings that I can change so that my Samsung HDTV finds the Serviio server faster?

I already know what I can do on the hardware side to speed up the discovery process, but I would like to know if there are any hidden settings on the Serviio server.

on startup, Serviio advertises itself every 10 seconds (3 times), then every 3 minutes.

You can change the 3 minute interval by passing this parameter to the server, but I'm not sure it'll help your problem as it gets used only after the three initial multicasts.

I am finding that my Samsung "C" series HDTV needs to be plugged directly into the same gigabit switch as my Serviio server in order to discover it within 10 seconds. If I use HomePlug AV 500Mbps adapters to connect my Samsung HDTV and Serviio server, the "Media Play" software on my Samsung TV will not discover my Serviio Server quick enough and will throw an error. The Samsung "Media Play" software will discover my Serviio server if the Samsung HDTV has been on for a bit, but if you use the Samsung "Media Play" software immediately after powering up the Samsung HDTV (via cold boot), it will bomb and not find the Serviio server.

I am using very fast powerline equipment and it streams video very well. These powerline adapters average 280-320Mbps, but they are not fast enough to pickup the Serviio server when a cold booted Samsung HDTV (using the built-in "Media Play" software) is trying to connect to it. A gigabit switch is the only answer to this problem (if your cold booting your Samsung HDTV right into the Samsung "Media Play" software).

Also a Serviio server with a Samsung HDTV (connected to a gigabit switch) will give you extremely good "fast forward" and "rewind" capabilities (via the built-in Samsung "Media Play" software). If you plug your Serviio server and Samsung HDTV into a slower network backbone, the Samsung "Media Play" fast forward and rewind response is garbage.

The other possibility is you power devices are going into a sleep mode when the TV is off. May be they are not waking up fast enough?

Did anyone find a solution to this problem? I realise that this will be a "blast from the past" for the people who contributed to this thread back in 2011!

I too have a TP-Link Powerline adapter which is connected to a WDTV Live media streamer. I find that when I turn on the streamer it cannot find my Serviio server (version 1.3.1 running on a Synology ds-211j NAS). However, if I turn the powerline adapter off and then back on again, when I then again do a scan for media servers it finds my Serviio instance within seconds.

If I have Windows media server running on my PC (something which I don't typically run) I find that my powerline adapter finds this without having to be re-started.

So my question is why does the Serviio server seem to advertise itself in a manner which makes it harder to detect? (note that the media server which ships with my Synology NAS behave in the same way as the Serviio server - note that I don't run this at the same time as the Serviio server).
