Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

Hello everybody,

I'm new to this forum, I've read many posts and found answers but this is the first time as writer. Thank you in advance for everything.

I've installed the last release of servo in a Mac-Pro (3.1) and added folders of my movies (MKV directly obtained from the original discs with MAKEMKV). The software is fabulous, you've obtain automatically Cover Art, group of TV Series and the database is sortable in any pleadable way (Directors, Actors, Genre...). Actually my devices are a WDTV LIVE, a PS3, and a Pioneer Kuro series; they work perfectly. Recently I bought a Beovision 11 and cabled to the net (my network is cabled and gigabit on cat6 cables) I've got problems with HD MKV (VC1 or AVC...equals), an HD movie begins and then stutters and freezes. I tried with wireless connection and specifying different renderer profile but the problems persist.
Yesterday I tried to install Twonky and then Plex and with both the HD MKV files play correctly on Beovision 11 (no transcoding, direct play); I also tried to copy the MKV in a USB key and play directly from it and it works good. Today in the morning I tried to install Serviio in a Windows machine and the problem with Beovision is like with Mac-Pro.
As I'd like to use Serviio and no other servers (it's simple, it's customizable without being a computer-man, and do everything I need), please let me know if I can do some test or adjust something.
Bye and thank you.

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

What profile is being assigned to the BV11?
It sounds like the mkv is being transcoded by Serviio and likely doesn't need to be (can you confirm whether it's being transcoded - a detailed log will tell you). This could be because the profile needs to be tweaked or that your subtitle settings are forcing transcoding, both of which should be an easy fix.

Hello, thank you for your attention. The profile is Generic DLNA Profile and the log with DEBUG is unreadable to me. Lots of entries in thousands of seconds. This is an extract when, I think, select the movie "Danni Collaterali.mkv" (Collateral Damages VC1). The entries are very similar and repeated themselves continuously:

Now I'll try to disable transcoding and sub transcoding and I'll let you know. Thx

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

I can see that it is not transcoded - "2013-12-09 00:11:51,340 DEBUG [VideoDeliveryEngine] Delivering file 'Danni collaterali.mkv' in native format", but not what might be causing the stuttering.

The fact that you can watch it using other media servers suggests its also not network or renderer related. The only other thing I can think of is your MAC/PC is busy doing something else when you are trying to stream the MKV file using Serviio ... can you see any process utilising high CPU while Serviio is running? ps. Has Serviio finished indexing your media library - I can't see any entries in the log to indicate this, but it's not the whole log.

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

CPU utilizing is very very low, Maximum 2.4% and average 0.59%. As regards Serviio indexing , Actually is set every 5 minutes (default value). The log file in DEBUG mode becomes very large in seconds (over 180Kb), I could send it to you, if you wish. I also tried Serviio in a Windows Notebook and streaming to BV11 has the same result, exactly same behavior.

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

No need (ps. you can turn debug mode of if you haven't already) - if the CPU utilisation is low I'm looking in the wrong rabbit hole...

Did you look at your subtitle settings (only top checkbox on the Delivery, Subtitles tab in Serviio Console should be set)? Also, separately, try turning off transcoding (Delivery, Transcoding tab) - don't think this is it though as is its not transcoding according to the log.

I've run out of thoughts on this. Most of the common causes - network, and processing power of the renderer and the MAC - have been ruled out by the fact that other media servers work fine. Maybe someone else may have some thoughts on it....

Tried what you described, but no good results. Suddenly. Thank you for your precious time, it was very helpful in finding new tools of serviio like debug log. Thx, again. Bye.

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

From the log it looks for chunks of the file at the end (probably some headers), maybe later it actually loads some larger chunks (if it's small chunks ll the time, that would cause network to slow down).

Maybe the other servers use a different mime-type that the player treats differently. Can you try the Samsung C/D/E profile?

Hello, from your thumbnail I've read you're the developer. Let me say congratulation for your creation. It's the smartest I've used and does simply (to user's view) everything you need with an immediate interface.
I'm now going to test the profile you've indicated to me. Thank you in advance.

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

Hello, suddenly it doesn't work. it's exactly like Generic DLNA profile or WDTV Live Profile. Transcoding in Console is unchecked and subtitle in Console is unchecked too.
If you need I've deleted the log file and:
1) I've launched Serviio and Serviio Console
2) I've turned on the BV11 and selected the movie "Danni Collaterali.mkv"
3) I've seen it is not working and after a few seconds I've turned off the BV11
4) I've closed Serviio
The file is 85KB (DEBUG Mode)

Hello Petr,

I've tried every profile inside Serviio with no result, suddenly. Do you think there's possibility in the future with Serviio to stream HD content to Beovision 11? If you need some information or test feedback I'll be happy to do it.
Bye and thank you.

No, pardon, I'm italian and I can't write (and speak) english in a right way. I've intended that I've tried the profile you suggested and every profile I've found in Serviio too (Panasonic, Samsung, PS3, WDTV and so on) and unfortunately the problem I have with BV11 still remains: I select an HD MKV file and the movie flows like in "ralenty", it stops a bit, then it restarts slowly and there's no audio. If a pause the movie and the I press Play the movie start in a correct way, with audio too, for a second and then freeze-pay-freeze-play. With Standard-definition MKV (DVD) everything works perfectly.

Re: Bang & Olufsen Beovision 11

I can confirm this.

Movies begin to stutters on my Beovision 11 when I stream from Serviio over a wired connection from a Synology NAS.
Incidentally, it happens on the same mark every time. For example, in one video there's a stutter at 0:03 and in another one at 0:10. This stutter can be skipped and the movie will continue playing (until the next stuttering part), but it's important to notice that the stuttering always occur at the same places. So far, the stuttering has been extremely punctual.

The exact same videos streamed from Plex Media Server do not stutter at the same places. (I have yet to notice any stuttering with Plex at all.)
However, there are other problems with Plex, namely extremely slow listing and browsing of contents, which prompted me to seek out and install Serviio.

I don't know why this is, but I thought I'd let you know. Something is awry in the BV11+Serviio relationship.
