Possible to view content categorised by year?

Hi

I'm using .nfo files to supply metadata for my video files. I'm including the <year> element since this seemed like a good idea. I was assuming that I'd be able to browse through my library by year from my TV but have found that this is not the case. So for example, I was hoping there would be a "year folder" offered and when I opened it I would expect to see a list of the years for which I have content. Opening a specific year folder (eg. 1999) would list all the titles that had that specific year value in the <year> element of my .nfo files.

I don't know much about how DLNA works so this may simply be not possible.

Could someone tell me whether it's possible in general i.e. if *any* media server software has this capability and in particular, whether serviio can do it? If it can, what do I need to do to enable this feature?

Thanks

Are you using Serviio 1.4? It is listed under Release Year in both Mediabrowser and on my devices.

Check your settings on the Presentation Tab in Serviio Console. Other than that, it may be a different tag in your .nfo file (I use online metadata, so cannot help you there - although I thought it used the <premiered> tag or something like that... someone else should be able to help here). ps. only includes movies (not TV series), but that may be my settings.

Thanks for the reply... I only just noticed it!

I think you've hit the nail on the head. I'm running 1.1... old! I'll have to find the time to do an upgrade asap then.

Thanks again

Re: Possible to view content categorised by year?

Excellent. I upgraded to 1.4 and now have the Release Years category. Thanks again!

I seem to have years for which there is no content however. And it looks suspiciously like ranges of years have been generated for some reason, even if as I say, I have no content with an .nfo file with the <year> element containing that value. Most odd. I also have a "year" 31 sitting next to all the other 4 figure years. I've searched all my nfo metadata and none of them contain <year>31</year> so I'm puzzled as to where that has come from. It has no items in it.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I have the very same problem. All my movies (feature films, tv shows) show up in these folders, spottily, but none of my music videos. I went through the trouble of exporting XBMC .nfo files for all of them just so I could sort things out by year but absolutely none of them show up at all. When I DLNA XMBC through my PS3 I can open up say "1994" and it will show me all the music videos and movies I have from that year. I would really REALLY like this to work in Serviio. I basically have been working through this other program just so I can make my serviio experience better.

Do they show under Movies?
