B series no DTS sound

Hello Community

I've been browsing through F.A.Q's Wiki's and countless post on this impressive forum but I am yet without a solution to my problem.
Should there be a solution to this somewhere already I humbly apologize.

I am trying play movies in all different sizes and shapes on our Samsung UE40B8050 but it seems no matter what I try, my videofiles with DTS sound is either not transcoded properly or not transcoded at all.
On a different note I have absolutely no problem playing the file in question on my Samsung E4500.
I am using Serviio 1.4 on WHS 2011

What renderer profiles have been assigned to both devices (Serviio Console, Status tab)? Ensure that you have the correct profiles assigned.
I cannot see in the log file where you have attempted to play the video file??

The UE40B8050 is using the auto-assigned Samsung B-series profile and the E4500 is using the Samsung TV / Player E/F Profile.

I was pretty sure I followed the instructions thoroughly.
This time what I did was:
In log4j.xml

Change

To

</category>

Save and restart the Serviio service.

Play the movie on the TV.

The only thing that stands out is the use of DTS-MA (Master Audio) and 8 channels (DTS 7.1). I'm not sure whether ffmpeg can transcode this.

What happens if you manually transcode this file using the command:

Can you post MediaInfo details for the resultant file "testmovie.mts". Does it play on either TV with audio?
Perhaps also try the above command with -ac 2 instead of -ac 6 and see if it is any better (ie. downmix to stereo) - you can also try -ac 8, but I'm not sure that this is valid (keep all 8 channels), and knock the quality up -b:a 384k and see if these help.

ps. There does seem to be some confusion as to whether ffmpeg supports transcoding of DTS-HD (7-channel or 8-channel audio) - see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4079. Your tests above may assist in this.

Ok, am at a bit of a loss. What this is confirming is that Serviio and ffmpeg are doing their job correctly and are transcoding the DTS in to AC3 correctly (also confirmed by the fact that it plays on the E4500).

It seems that the UE40B8050 doesn't like AC-3. Whether it's only in this case, or all ffmpeg transcoded AC-3, or all AC-3 would require testing with other files - this is probably worth doing as it could just be something weird with this file. If it is only this file (or a few files) probably best to just re-encode them.

If its all AC-3 files (or anything being transcoded to AC-3) you could try editing the Samsung B profile and transcoding to MP3 (wherever you see targetACodec="ac3" in the Samsung B profile change it to targetACodec="mp3").
