Loading (bufferring) issue with servio on HD movies

Hopefully someone has a quick fix for this... I have searched the forum for this/similar issues but found nothing that matches.

I have a new build pc (intel i3 haswell 3.4g) running serviio and a new (2013) Samsung UN60F6300AF smart tv... network utilizez an Asus RT-AC66R router and pc is connected via 5g wireless.

When I play a BD (hd) movie (for example, Avatar... but it seems to be doing this with ALL BD movies), every 20-30 seconds the movie buffers (get the "loading" indicator in the upper right of the screen). This does NOT happen with non-hd movies through the serviio connection. Just to quell the thought that it is the network/router/connection method... I played the Avatar movie using the direct connection to the pc (bypassing serviio) and the movie played perfectly. I have transcoding turned OFF in the console. I love the serviio platform but this is a little frustrating, can't seem to isolate this down to a specific setting!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Loading (bufferring) issue with servio on HD movies

Iveky, thanks for the response but I guess I was just a little vague with that detail... the pc serviio is running on "is" using N... I inadvertently used the radio freq instead of the protocol... the 5g band is set to N only. As well, the problem does not appear to be the network itself, if I call up the video by connecting directly to the pc using Samsung's "link" service (still using wireless), the movies plays fine. It is when I connect to the serviio server from the tv does it do the buffering. As odd as that is, I have not found anything either in serviio's settings or via the forum that points to a direct issue or fix.

Again, I appreciate the fast response!! :)

if it works ok over wired connection and not over wifi then search solution in wifi settings, serviio has nothing with that.

Re: Loading (bufferring) issue with servio on HD movies

Kelder,

The issue isn't with Serviio, it's with the Samsung TV itself (you're not alone, I have two Samsung TVs and it is peeving me to no end).

See the note about stuttering video at http://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php5/DLNA_f ... quirements

It states that "if your video "Overall bit rate" is greater than 10 000 Kbps, you are reaching the upper limit of the hardware capability. This is NOT related to file size - file size = bitrate * running time, but the stream size(bitrate) that is send to your TV/Player." I believe this limitation is DLNA specific.

I've been testing this by using XMedia Recode and Handbrake to re-encode down to lower bitrates and I've had success with bitrates between 8000 and 9000 (not constant bitrate! I'm using the quality factor setting in Handbrake. I've set a slightly lower bitrate to allow for spikes when the screen transitions are great and thus larger bitrate is necessary).

Now, your issue goes away because you were "linking" which I believe basically uses the PC as a file share server (CIFS).

I only *WISH* Samsung went back to their B series specifications and allowed CIFS shares to be viewable on the TV... but Samsung ain't going back there and no matter how many hours I've spent on the telephone with Samsung support (useless!) arguing their false glossy marketing brochures promises, they've always been quick to point out "incompatibility" and blame others!

Re: Loading (bufferring) issue with servio on HD movies

Thanks for the info jsbbs... I will start going through that and try to determine what is going on in "my" installation. I am fairly new to this whole thing so my learning curve is a tad bit high at the moment, guess I should have stated that at the outset. I will post my findings back here in the forum for all to see and hopefully 1) I will find resolution and 2) maybe this can help someone else to avoid the frustration in the future.
