VERY laggy when watching transcoding .mkv on KDL55HX850

Hello,

Not a very technical person but I have Serviio set up in my household. I have a TV (UN40D6000 -- Samsung TV / player (C/D-series) profile) in the same room as my computer/monitor (wireless-enabled TV) and watching any .mkv which requires transcoding is no problem BUT when I try to watch the same source while transcoding from my TV downstairs (KDL-55HX850 - Sony Bravia TV (2012) profile), it becomes very laggy.

I am wondering if this is due to the profile configuration (TV cannot handle the transcoded video or could it be the network is weak? Unfortunately it is not easy to test as moving the TV closer to my router (or vice versa) would require a bit of work)?

Would appreciate any insight and of course, I can provide any further details with the necessary guidance.

Edit - Normal .avi files seem to play perfectly fine.

Re: VERY laggy when watching transcoding .mkv on KDL55HX850

Its probably due to high CPU usage for the mkv file to be transcoded for your Sony TV, the Samsung probably support mkv in native format so no need to be transcoded (less CPU usage).
Could you check your CPU usage during transcoding?
Is it the same behavior for all mkv files?
Could you provide information about your mkv file ? (see signature links)

Re: VERY laggy when watching transcoding .mkv on KDL55HX850

I was watching Top Gear so we will compare the two videos (last week -- first code snippet was laggy, this week it seemed fine so definitely not applicable for all .mkv files...)

CPU usage was hovering around 7% for this week's episode. Unsure what it was last week (did not get to test) but I do have an i5-2500k which I hope would be plenty for the transcoding (of course, I know this was two generations ago).

Last week (laggy):

Do you have automatic library refresh enabled?
I suggest to disable it and only manually force a refresh when you add new file.
During lib refresh, there are multiple ffmpeg process that could hang the cpu.

I do - let me disable this and see if the issue still persists. Thanks.

So ever since I had the library reset bumped up to 180 (after running it in forced refresh mode for a bit), the issue is close to non-existent now. I had no idea the library refresh could decrease stream performance!

There were multiple ffmpeg process launched during library refresh in background. If files are on remote drive, you should have multiple read access too.
So bottleneck could be on your cpu usage or on your network usage.
