[SOLVED] Ssa subtitles not working on Sony Bravia?

Hi,

Im new to Serviio - and like many others in here, Im pretty fed up with my Sony Bravia

Everything is working just fine - except when using Ssa subtitles. I get an "can't connect to server" error on the tv. Srt subtitles works just fine, but the font is quite small.

Does Ssa simply not work with Sony Bravia or are there some settings I need to adjust? Or any other good advice in matters of Sony Bravia and subtitles.

Cheers,
Mikkel

Btw.: My Sony Bravis is a KDL-40HX75G.

Re: Ssa subtitles not working on Sony Bravia?

- Sony Bravia devices does not support any subtitles format in native, you have to transcode video stream to burn the subtitle track in video track...this is the serviio's job.
- Serviio support many subtitle format:
Subtitles: SubRip (.srt, .txt), SSA/ASS (.ssa, .ass), MicroDVD (.sub, .txt), SAMI (.smi), VTT (.vtt), MOV open text

Are you sure that your ssa file is valid, could you provide information about your ssa file? ( ffmpeg -i <subtitlefile>.ssa )

Could you enable detailed logging and check the ffmpeg command line used during transcoding process ?

You were right about the ssa file - it was not valid :)

I used some freeware program to for the conversion from srt to ssa. Didn't know this job could be handled by ffmpeg.

Hope it works. I'll check when getting back from work.

Thanks a bunch! :)

If you absolutely want to use SSA/ASS (.ssa, .ass) subtitles format, you can have a look at this post:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2396&p=14223#p88533

You can create an ass subtitle file from srt file, then you can adjust the subtitle font size and other by editing the ass file settings.

Re: Ssa subtitles not working on Sony Bravia?

When using .srt, the font-size on a 40" Sony is just too small - that's the reason why I want to use .ssa.

I did as you explained, and now I have a nice readable subtitle.

Thanks a lot :)
