Serviio server stops automatically on Synology DS214play

Ok, I have some news. The server still not works, but it doesn't automatically stop anymore.

After updating the JAVA and resetting Serviio multiple times, I now get a new error in my detailed log file. Please take a look, I've added it to this reply.

Not sure - feels like we're going in circles. What is it that you are doing (how are you installing the package?).

In your earlier post the log file (serviio.log) states you are using Java 7.0.51 and suggests a problem with finding an IP address. The last log file (pc5dczc_log_new.log) states that it is now using Java 6.0.38 and has errors with class definitions (a programming error - maybe linked to the Java version).

I'd start again - remove all versions of Java, and Serviio, and then follow patters instructions to install Serviio on the NAS and Serviio Console on your MAC.

I had a look at the forum and found out that because I have a Synology DS214Play with an intel processor, I can't use JAVA 7. I've also already tried that

Besides that, I've re-installed JAVA and Serviio multiple times, but every time it gives me the same errors. A minute ago I also did a reset on the Synology, to switch all settings back to basic (apparently it keeps all the installed packages...).

What I still can try is update my DSM to 5.0 (Beta) and try to install it on there... Though I'm close to giving up, thinking about the amount of time I spent in it

I'm following the exact instructions from this website: http://pcloadletter.co.uk/2012/01/25/se ... o-package/. The only thing I don't totally get, is this point:
"Since this console binding uses a static address you should reserve this particular IP address for your NAS (most home broadband routers will let you do this in the DHCP options), or use a static IP address. This will also prevent Serviio appearing multiple times in the menus of your renderer devices."

But I don't think that has a lot to do with the problem that I have, right?

Or could it maybe have something do to with firewall settings?

No the reserved or static IP address is not related to your problem. Its something you can set up later (it stops your NAS being assigned a different IP address from your router - its important otherwise Serviio console won't be able to connect, but not an issue at the moment).

Nor do I think its firewall related. Your Serviio server isnt starting. Firewall issues will mean your devices won't see your server... we haven't got to that stage yet

Looking at patters' web site - scroll toward the bottom and some user comments - a user called Charles has got this working on the DS214play (and is using Java 7, but either 7 or 6 should be fine). Now the only problem left is to make the Serviio server pop-up in the DLNA menu of my Panasonic ST-50 but that is probably something in the network settings of my TV... I don't know if you have any experience in setting things up like this as well (I'm almost afraid that I ask too much of you ) ?

No worries - that was a messy problem, glad you worked it out.

I just wrote a long spool to assist with your TV but I see you've solved that, so have deleted. Enjoy using Serviio

Same for me after DSM 5.0-4458 on DS412+, error code 503, Server not avaiable.

After updating everything, my DSM, my Serviio, my JAVA, Serviio on my PC still works, but it doesn't show up on my Panasonic TV...
Also, my TV normally shows up on my Serviio-Console...

The normal Synology Disk Station does show up, but the link to Serviio is gone... Could I please ask for your help one more time?

Hi Chris - I presume it was working at one stage, so did anything change - in particular, did anything change either in the network (eg. you connected your TV or the NAS differently) or on the NAS's firewall?
What have you tried so far (have you tried restarting the NAS)?
Check your IP addresses on all devices - they should have the same first three digits.
Have you any other devices (non-PC) working?

Also, have a read of viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3311&start=160#p89041 onward.

I installed the new JAVA 8 SE EMBEDDED version and after that I tried to install Serviio, but then I get a message before I try to install it, that says: "please install java first", and it forces me to install the "normal" Java Manager from Synology before I can even install it. So maybe this could be the problem? Because now I have JAVA 7 running, because I can't install JAVA 8 through the Java Manager.

I've already tried restarting my NAS, re-install Serviio and JAVA.

About the IP address; if the normal Synology Disk Station shows up through DLNA, it should also be the same/work for Serviio... right?

On my PC I can connect to the MediaBrowser URL, though when I click on movies, I can't see any... Though when I click on Video > Movies, I can't see any results... but when I click on Video > Title > 0, I can see all the movies that start with a 0 (like: 01.Dr.No.James.Bond)

Thanks for the link, though what I didn't totally get was: "empty shared directories"... I have some shared folders that I use for my back-ups, and I'm not really looking forward to remove all those Or maybe I misunderstood?

After doing a full re-install of all the applications (also on my Mac) it now shows up on my DLNA menu of my dear Panasonic TV

There is one thing missing though... Is that it is still missing the metadata of all the movies... Which means that I can't see any movie title now

Have you given it some time? Metadata collection and library re-indexing after a new install can take some time.

I've given it all the time in the world But it is still not working...

Now the error I get is: Haven’t found any suitable local IP address, will try again 1 time.

And it just shuts down... It is very confusing, because I've did a full re-install of all the different programs (JAVA, Serviio, Serviio-Console) and it still is not working...

Can you please help me one more time?

Im not sure - you probably need someone with the DS214play to help you.
In the log above it was finding an address 192.168.1.75. That has changed now?
Try binding the server to this adress (either using console, on the status tab, or by using the system property serviio.boundAddr, see http://www.serviio.org/component/conten ... properties for details).

I'd avoid Java 8 until Zip specifically declares Serviio to be compatible with it. For now the preferred Java is 7.
