No or jerky sound for some videos on Bravia XBR9

Hello!

I had this problem with 0.4.2, I'm still seeing it after upgrading to 0.5. Some of the video-files have either jerky-sound (skipping every second or so), and at least one has no sound at all. Here are the ffmpeg identifications for two of them (file-names and paths obscured, but filename-extensions preserved):
  • Jerky sound:

I'm going to try to (reluctantly) switch on the "Downmix to stereo" option -- and will report, whether that helped. But, obviously, I'd rather listen to the full sound, if the video contains it...

Selecting the "Downmix to stereo" radio-button in console (and pushign "Save") did not help... Do I need to restart the server, perhaps?

Which profile did you used?
Could you check on detailed logging file the ffmpeg command line when your start streaming these movies?

It is the "Sony Bravia TV" profile (explicitly set, automatic recognition no longer works for me in 0.5 for some reason).

Can you remove the TV from the list of renderers, enable detailed logging and restart Serviio? It should give me some info about the TV so that the detection can be amended. Post the beginning of the new log file (you should see line like Adding new Renderer ....)

Re: No or jerky sound for some videos on Bravia XBR9

I just installed 0.5 and I have the same problem (with the XBR9). The profile works great except for some audio issues. I did some experimenting and found out that the Bravia XBR9 is somewhat fussy about audio bit rate and sample rate. If the sample rate is not 48K. you can have issues. One test stream with 22500 sample rate would not produce audio at all. In addition, it does not like audio bit rates lower than 128K. I see that we can now set the bit rate in Serviio. So how can we force Serviio to transcode with a 48K sample rate?

You cannot, but it should be fixed in 0.5.1 (set it to 48000 if original less than 41000)

That great Petr! I don't know why the XBR9 (2009 model) is so picky. Mp3 audio files at 44100 seem to play fine. I look forward to 0.5.1!

Re: No or jerky sound for some videos on Bravia XBR9

Unfortunately, this problem remain in 0.5.2. In particular, I have a collection of music videos with only two of the clips playable. All others skip about half a second of sound for half a second played... The playable ones are in AVI, the "bad" ones are MP4... These aren't too large, so I can upload them some place for anybody's testing...

Re: No or jerky sound for some videos on Bravia XBR9

Interestingly, when I turn off the receiver, that the TV feeds via an optical cable, I get normal sound from the TV's own speakers...

Obviously, I'd rather be using my 5.1 "home theater" than TV's puny stereo, but, perhaps, this can help narrow the problem down...

This is still a problem with Serviio 0.6.0.1 (and even the newest ffmpeg 0.7.7).
