see no content

Hi,
I previously installed serviio server and could see files on my renderers (TV) and everything worked well.

I had to restore my computer for a reason.
Then I installed again serviio but this time although I can see every shared library (folder) on my TVs but I can see no content on any folder that I shared.
The folders I shared are the same as previously before restoring my computer. They're all on D: and no file/folder permission has been changed on that drive.

I don't remember if I did anything other than declaring my shared libraries on serviio console. What can be the problem ?
Why can't I see any file on my TV when going into each folder I shared ?

The only difference with my previous install is that this time prior to installing serviio I also installed Universal Media Server (similar to PS3 media server). Is my problem because serviio can't work along Universal Media Server ?
It sure can work simultaneously with Windows Media Server!!!

Thanks for help

What did you do - did you re-install the OS?

The symptoms you have are almost always related to permissions.
Check the permissions (right click on the folder in Windows Explorer, select Properties and look at Security tab) for the shared folders and see if there are any strange users. More importantly see if the SYSTEM user has full permissions. Sometimes changing/reinstalling OS's recreates the SYSTEM user, and its effectively not the same System user from the old OS, so it gets confused.

Another way to test is to try to create a new folder on the C: drive, copy one media file to there and add the folder to the library. If that works compared the security on the working folder to that of the non workers, and adjust accordingly.

Im not aware of a problem with running alongside UMS (I used to run PS Media Server alongside Serviio a long time ago, and PSMS is basically the same as UMS).

Re: see no content

I had a similar issue recently. Newly upgraded OS.
And what it turned out to be for me was that the default window size of the console on the library tab is such that the Save buton is hidden off screen.
So I was updating my library location but never saving the changes to the settings. So serviio never scanned my libraries. Whoops. But I can be forgiven because until you drag the window to a larger size the save button is hidden. Bloody Java!!

I just came on the forum to see if I could find an appropriate spot to report this little defect.

The console could probably be changed to warn you that you have not saved your setting changes if you try and quit the console with out saving.

Re: see no content

Thanks for your reply.

Actually the problem wasn't a real one. I have a really big library (audio as well as video & photo). I added one folder after another quickly and expected to find the contents right away. Serviio reflects instantly the shared folder (after pushing save button on interface) but not their contents. I had to wait a couple of minutes after sharing each folder in order to view their contents. It was very strange because I never touched any permissions of folders and naturally didn't expect a permission problem.

BTW, do you know how to make (UPnP) playlist ? Is it possible with the free edition of Serviio ?

thanks

Re: see no content

What's a UPnP Playlist?
For playlists for your media look at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16926&p=91809&hilit=playlist#p91809. Most programs that can create a playlist can be used, as long you save the playlist file in your shared folder somewhere so it can be scanned. Playlist formats supported are: PLS (.pls), M3U (.m3u, .m3u8), ASX (.asx, .wax., .wrx), WPL (.wpl). Fully supported in the Free version.
