Making playlists

Hi,

Can anyone explain how to make (UPnP) playlists on Serviio (possible with free edition ?).

I'm talking about playlists that I could find on the renderer device while browsing contents on server (Serviio). When talking UPnP, after connection there all a set of folders (e.g. Image, Audio, Video, then for example for video: actor, director, ...). Well, for Audio there is a Playlist folder. I'd like to be able to build them and find them on my device

thanks

Re: Making playlists

http://www.brothersoft.com/playlist-creator-30483.html Playlist Creator 3.6.2. (Note: this is Windows software, but there are others for Mac or -nix) It's drag and drop simple, and you can make your list contain whatever you want, in whatever order you want. Save the playlist file in a folder that is scanned by Serviio. The files in the list don't have to be in the same file location as the playlist file, but they all do have to be in a scanned location.

Then go into the Serviio console on the Presentation tab and make sure you have Playlists enabled for videos. After your next refresh, your playlists will appear. Currently I have playlists with genre titles, as well as lists by actor. For example, I have a John Wayne list, Spielberg (as a director, not actor), Sci-Fi, Monsters (bad 50s Sci-Fi mostly). You get the idea.

Actually I wanted to export iTunes playlists so any renderer device could see them via UPnP (Serviio). So I exported each playlist in m3u and placed them in a shared folder (as you said). Then I was able to see them.

Then, the next day they became invisible!!! I couldn't explain what happened because I didn't change anything! I could no more find them whatever UPnP device I tested with. Then I put one of them in a different location still in a shared folder and I could see it. But doing this with other playlists gave no result (invisible).

That is, I haven't a consistent result. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and I have no idea why! Also each time I force refresh on the Serviio library. I don't think it's because Serviio because other UPnP servers (Windows Media Server or Universal Media Server - a branch of PS3 Media server) all gave no good result.

I also once export my playlist in m3u8 format instead of m3u the first time, thinking some characters confuse the server but without success.
what's hapening ?

Re: Making playlists

I use the .pls format, instead of .m3u. I don't use iTunes, so didn't know the options there.

With the software I linked, you can open your m3u files and convert them to .pls. Might be worth a shot. I tried the m3u format once, and for some reason that I can't remember went back to pls. Every uPnP player should recognize them, as it is just something that Serviio feeds.
