Newbie on the go

Just bought Serviio pro and servigo as well but suddenly realise there is much more to it than just clicking on the server wehen away from home. I apologise for this probably stupid question but how do I get to my files when away from home,,,,I need the explanation to be as basic as possible, I am no expert! Thank you

Re: Newbie on the go

What have you setup so far, have you tried to complete the steps outlined http://serviio.org/component/content/ar ... ote_access One you have setup your dynamic dns and router, and filled in the details in the console, you can then re-add the server while connect over wifi and it will setup so that it can work remotely.

Re: Newbie on the go

Been away for a while and tried again but have to give up. Cannot get to even port forward the router because I am probably not very good at it, point being that I hoped it would be simpler. I have a BT hub which does not list serviio as one of the apps you can pf and this is what they expcet me to do (see below)

Click Add new game or application.
Enter a name for the game or application.
To create a variant of a game or application that is already defined select Yes next to Copy an existing game/application then select the game/application in the list.
To add a new game/application select No next to Copy an existing game/application.
Enter Protocol > Port range > Translate to as appropriate for the rule you are adding.
Click Add.
If there are multiple protocols/ranges for this rule repeat steps 4 and 5 as appropriate.
Click Apply.
Go back to Port forwarding.
Select the name chosen in step 1 in the 'LH Game/Application' box and in 'RH Device' box.
Select User defined IP address and then manually enter IP addres.
Select Add then Apply.

Now I am sorry but I understand TCP protocol, have no idea what start and end range are (is it just 23424?) and as for the translate bit who knows? Without all that it just fails. I would happily pay to have this done automatically but portforward.com asks for $30! A bit too steep. Shame because Serviio works well as DNLA and it is the best so far. Bought the pro version and happy enough about it but too complex for streaming away from home for me.

Under the Serviio console->Remote tab, have you ticked the 'Automatically configure your router to allow incoming access"? That should do everything at the router end for you. If not then yes you would just enter a range of 23424-23424, and say that it translates/maps to 23424 (i.e. forward port 23424 on your router to port 23424 on your server).

Re: Newbie on the go

Thank you and yes I did tick to no avail. Tried now the dynamic dns and again I dont understand a word of it so I will have to let it go. I wish it was simpler I could have used this service as it stands I will just use it as a dnla client. Way overcomplicated for Joes like me....
