NO MEDIA

Hi!
I have searched the forum and help but nothing so I am posting this problem.
Installed serviio all went well, added folders.
NO CONTENT!
I waited 12 hours for it to add them was assuming it will take time, but nothing I even tried to add a single mp3 file nothing, I mean nothing, not in media browser (local via browser) or on the remote device.
The remote device sees the serviio but no content.
I am ready to give up on this very soon it is just frustrating!!!

By the way I used serviio before on this machine and it worked very well. Running windows vista by the way.

Re: NO MEDIA

First, on the library tab where you added the folders, make sure the right checkbox is selected for the type of media (audio, video, etc).

For videos, the file name must match the name found in the Internet databases. There is a naming convention that should be followed for the best results. Use Filebot if you need assistance with naming. For my videos, I use this format: "title (year).file type". For example, "Star Trek (2009).mkv". For TV series episodes, you need the season and episode number, and if there was more than one series with the same name you need the year as well. Another example: "Dragnet (1951) - S1E1 The Human Bomb.mkv".

I can't explain the problem with an MP3 file, as mine all show. Again, might be the wrong checkbox on the library tab.

Re: NO MEDIA

Hi!
Thanks for the reply!
So you telling me it wont add a file unless the name matches the internet database? so if the pc have no internet access it wont add any files?
That sounds very silly.
I did choose the right media type for the folders. and today after 32 hours still not a single file showing, I think there is something wrong with serviio, it doesnt even show image files.
I do remember last time that serviio didnt show anything under "year" "artist" and so on, only when I open the folder, but this time its totally messed up.
Maybe should just stick to all share instead, at least that one works fine.
cheers!

Re: NO MEDIA

By the way I can see the main folder in media browser, but no sub folder or files.
Also did the rename of files, nothing still after about 30 min or so.

When you add a share location and choose video, Serviio by default checks the metadata box. If you uncheck this box, then it shouldn't look for matching Internet data, and perhaps your files will then appear. I'm afraid I don't know enough about the back end of Serviio to know if this is the only place that needs to be unchecked, and since I'm not home I can't look at my console to be sure :)

As far as support, I think overall Serviio does a great job with limited resources. It's basically a one person operation, and he still has to make a living. ;) There are quite a number of very knowledgeable people in this forum, and will work hard to assist you. Sometimes it takes a number of messages back and forth to get a complete understanding of the problem, and come up with a solution. Serviio is a great product, and worth working through your issue.

No. Files that are added to the library will always appear under the "Folders" category, listed by their raw file name.

As an optional extra - metadata can also be added to the library to allow the MP3 to be listed by proper song title, artist, genre, year, etc. This optional metadata can either be downloaded from the internet (based on the file name) or can be sourced by other methods (eg. an .nfo file). The important thing is that it is optional - it is not required for Serviio operation, it simply enhances the interface and user experience.

On to the problem at hand - this sounds very much a permissions issue. Are the shared folders on an external drive? See: http://www.serviio.org/component/conten ... e?id=21#q5.

You need to ensure that the Serviio user has permissions to that drive, the folders and all files. If it is permissions, you have two choices:
  • change the permissions on the drive, folder, subfolders and files to allow Serviio access (the System user is generally all that is required, however you can use a sledgehammer approach and give the user "Everyone" access); or
  • Change the user that Serviio logs in as to a user that already has access to the shared folder (eg. whatever user you log in as) - as described in the link above.
Hopefully this addresses the problem for you.

Re: NO MEDIA

All that is done, administrator account, file share permission, still nothing
By the way it is an internal HDD

What I am saying, all is done by the book but still nothing appearing.

I tried adding a folder without type still nothing. Like I said All Share working fine but not Serviio, and yes I tried removing all share just in case of a conflict no luck.

Re: NO MEDIA

I may be experiencing the same type of issue. I installed the newest version 1.4.1.2 on 07/15. I previously had 0.6.0.1 installed.

Here is my setup (the entire E drive is shared):
E:/Movies
(sub-folders)
-Baby Movies
-Kid Movies
-Family Movies
-PG-13 Movies
-R-Rated Movies

Under my previous configuration I just had E:/Movies added as a shared folder under Library > Shared Folders and in my player I would see Movies, hit enter and then see the sub folders. After I installed the new version, I left the Movies folder alone and added the sub-folders (Baby, Kid, Family, etc) as their own shared folders. I did this to start playing with the Access group, but all the folders show as EMPTY when accessing them, except the existing ones I still have in place. I even put a TEST sub-folder inside the Movies folder and added as its own shared folder. From within Movies, it shows content, but when added as its own shared folder it shows no content. I'm not sure if this is a permissions issue or a view issue. I'm stumped.

The log does not show anything about "E:\Movies\TEST" anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: NO MEDIA

Ok, so I think I figured out my issue. It appears you cannot share the same set of movies between 2 folders, not really a permissions issue, but an exclusive only sharing issue or rule.

There was nothing in the logs that said, you already have this folder shared under another folder so that's why I am not showing content or ever indicated it was a permissions issue. I resolved this issue through some trial and error. Plus my log seem to get some clogged with entries due to some songs, PLS files, and movies it cannot figure out what to do with. So looking through the logs is not as intuitive as it would seem, but I was able to chunk my way through it and rule it out as useful.
