Remote Settings problem with pro version

connecting remotely

I have been using serviio for a while but as I didnt try remote connection during the trial period I bought the pro license
The programme would not automatically configure my router ASUS DSL-N55U so I attempted to do this manually - I have a static ip address from my provider
1) I tried setting up Port Forwarding as best I could -

2) Set up serviio console with the static ip address provided by my isp
serviio console.jpg

3) Tested but it failed
4) In case it would make a difference I also set Port triggering

5) tested but it still failed

The only port mentioned in the instructions is 23424 so I tried using it with local port blank and with the same port 23424 but neither worked
Am I missing something because as it stands at the moment I seem to have wasted my money on pro edition - (disappointing to see that the pro version doesn't give me direct email support! - so hope someone on the forum can help)

Re: Remote Settings problem with pro version

shouldn't you also set localPort on the first screen to 23424 ?

Re: Remote Settings problem with pro version

You should only have to enable "Automatic configure your router..." (in screen dump 2 above) to enable UPNP to automatically open the ports. Before you do so, remove the manual port forward and the port triggering to ensure they don't interfere (ps. you cannot use port triggering).

Test whether the port is open using the site http://www.canyouseeme.org/.

If the port is still not open, then you need to manually port forward as you have done in screen dump 1 above. I can't see what you have done wrong: as zip stated, you need to have both the port range and local port entered (as 23424). I assume that 192.168.1.224 is the IP address of the PC that Serviio is installed on, and that this address is reserved for that PC (you need to reserve the address so that it never changes in order for port forwarding to be reliable - there will be an option to reserve addresses on your router, LAN settings). Test using the web site above.

I tested the port on the site you suggested - the site automatically picked up my external IP address and I entered the one for serviio but it could not connect - I also tested the two ports used by Thunderbird for email (993 and 587) and they also could not connect! Yet my email is working fine!

Just to confirm the email address that goes in serviio console should be the external IP address (same as the one that shows up in the checking site) and not my local machine IP address (though had tried both anyway)
Also I did try the automatic set up first before I started trying to do anything manually
Thanks for you help

Re: Remote Settings problem with pro version

Isn't there some additional firewall on the router?

Re: Remote Settings problem with pro version

Yes there is though I have never changed any of the settings there - there are no filters set up but not sure what I would need to set

I also have comodo a/v firewall active but I have allowed access to serviioService.exe and for good measure ServiioConsole.exe
So I am guessing that I need to make some changes to the router firewall but not sure exactly what I need to set

thanks

Re: Remote Settings problem with pro version

Just to confirm the email [IP] address that goes in serviio console should be the external IP address..
Yes, but it's not actually required by Serviio (it's used by some third party applications).

Your network service filter is Off in the above screen shot, so that won't be blocking anything. This particular filter appears to be for outbound traffic anyway. Check the other filters - they are likely Off as well (leave them off).

You may also have to enable the port through the comodo firewall - see http://forums.comodo.com/help-for-v3-b1 ... 532.0.html. You can also test this from another PC/device on your local network - try to access Mediabrowser from that device's web browser using http://192.168.1.2224:23424/mediabrowser. If that doesn't work it will tell us that the comodo firewall (or some other firewall on the Serviio PC) is blocking the traffic; if it does work it will tell us the problem lies in the router.

Re: Remote Settings problem with pro version

It looks as if the problem was comodo firewall. Unfortunately the whole interface has changed completely since the article you referred me to but I found a setting which allowed me to change from "Block Incoming Connections" to "Alert incoming connections" it seems you can only make exceptions if you respond correctly to alert as there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the interface now to manually give permissions in advance.

Ideally I didn't want to open up to all connections so will have to take up with comodo support to see if there is a way just to let a particular TCP port request through.
Thanks for your patience and helpful support
