wdtv live does not display image or play flac

i have a wdtv live streaming media player (gen 3) updated to the latest firmware
i am running serviio 1.4 on a centos 6 machine
i compiled the latest version of ffmpeg and have installed version 8.96 of dcraw
I am using the wdtv profile setting on the console for the client

the problem I am having is that files which the wdtv supports are not being served correctly from the serviio server.

the first is a jpeg (4272x2848) that shows up as black on the screen when i try to view it.

the second is a flac file (generated by ffmpeg from m4a file) has the wdtv display an error message about unsupported audio format when I try to play it.

mp3 files play fine on the wdtv via serviio and a smaller 1080x720 version of the file displays fine on the wdtv via serviio

Here is the rub:

when i put the same two files onto a USB stick and play/view them from the stick plugged into the server, they play/view just fine.

when I try to display the large jpeg image on a samsung TV via serviio, it works just fine.

when I try to play the flac or display the jpeg on my various iPhone DLNA clients they work just fine.

Because I can play the flac file via USB, I don't thing that there is a problem with the flac file

Because I can display the image on a samsung via serviio and on the wdtv via USB, i think that the problem is between serviio and the wdtv.

does anyone have any ideas what can be done to solve this? when I get back home, i can gather debugging info - what would be useful in debugging this issue?

Does the flac play when using a Samsung profile?

Re: wdtv live does not display image or play flac

i'll try that when I get home. for some more debugging, i tried second media server for the same files and both the pictures and flac work fine - mostly.

i once got a "unsupported format" error on the wdtv for a flac that i had previously played without issue from that second server. My wdtv is using wireless, which is slow in my house so I am wondering if the wdtv uses the "unsupported format" error whenever it cannot play a file, regardless of the reason.

i'll try the samsung profile, as well as the generic DLNA profile. i might also be able to get the wdtv and a display close enough to the server to try it over a wired connection.

Re: wdtv live does not display image or play flac

hi Petr,

i brought my wdTV down to the media server's switch and gave it a wired connection. still no go on showing the large photo, and flacs resutl the message "cannot show this format"

in the console I changed the device from wdtv live to Samsung C servies and then the large photos did show on the screen, and the flac files appeared to play, but there was no sound output.

same files (flac and photo) play and display just fine using different server software (Logitech uPnP squeezeserver or Plex media server).

What if you try to play the flac using Toshiba REGZA profile?

Re: wdtv live does not display image or play flac

hi,

I never got back to this as life (new baby) got busy so I lived with Plex, but the way plex handles metadata is just too annoying and I much prefer the interface to the serviio console and I think that the acdess control in serviio is closer to what I want. All that said, i really want to be using serviio, so i tuned back to it this weekend, focussing on audio.

I tried the Toshiba REGZA profile as you suggested, and here is what changed

- the flac files no longer give an unsupported format error - they appear to be ready to play - the metadata and cover graphic displays, but the progress bar does not go past zero - ie: no sound.
- the mp3 files do not play at all, i just get a spinning arrow indicating that the wdtv is waiting for something to be delivered that is not coming

with samsung TV profile, the progress bar moved, but no sound came out. From The log file, I see this error:

2014-09-20 20:01:42,406 WARN [ProcessExecutor] Process ffmpeg has a return code of 1! This is a possible error. Detailed output follows.
libavformat 52.93. 0 / 52.93. 0

libavfilter 1.74. 0 / 1.74. 0
libswscale 0.12. 0 / 0.12. 0

2014-09-20 20:01:52,398 ERROR [ResourceTransportRequestHandler] Error while processing resource, sending back 500 error. Message: Transcoded file '/tmp/Serviio/transcoding-temp-107961-13-ORIGINAL.stf' cannot be found, FFmpeg execution probably failed

ffmpeg is in /usr/local/bin and has a symlink in /usr/bin over to /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg. All my audio media was generated using ffmpeg.
