Yeah but I don't think that allows you to stream live games from Acestream or Sopcast which is primarily what I want Serviio for!

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

I have a Samsung UA65HU8500 smart TV. (A 2014 model Samsung "series 8"; From the product code I'm assuming it counts as a "Series H" according to the way the profiles categorise Samsung devices).

I was initially using the Generic DLNA profile, but external subtitles don't work with that.
So I added the profile kindly provided by Karnith to my profiles.xml, but found it did not work very well at all:

The thumbnails (which were previously fine) got squashed to the wrong aspect ratio, and (much worse) files that played perfectly under the generic profile suddenly stopped working altogether.

By trial and error, I identified this code as the source of the thumbnail problems:

  Code:
      <DeviceDescription>
         <ExtraElements>
              <sec:ProductCap>smi,DCM10,getMediaInfo.sec,getCaptionInfo.sec</sec:ProductCap>
            <sec:X_ProductCap>smi,DCM10,getMediaInfo.sec,getCaptionInfo.sec</sec:X_ProductCap>
         </ExtraElements>
      </DeviceDescription>

Removing it fixed the thumbnail problems.

To fix the suddenly-unplayable file (it was a simple .avi), I simply removed the entire <Transcoding> and <OnlineTranscoding> blocks from Karnith's profile. My file now works, along with its external subtitles.
Clearly this means that any media codecs not natively supported by my TV now won't play (I've confirmed .ogm files don't work, nor do .mkv's containing flac audio, though you can actually play them without the sound).
However I couldn't get those to play properly using Karnith's profile (and with transcoding turned on) either.

Also, the "detection" section of the profile is still looking for a model "E" or "F" rather than "H", though that's not hard to fix. I don't think that works correctly anyway; even after fixing it I had to select the profile manually.

So, either there are significant bugs in Karniths "H series" profile, or else the "Series 8" UA65HU8500 TV I have requires an entirely different profile to be created for it.
Either way, I'm a novice at this; I'm not going to try doing it myself.

Can someone say when an official, fully-working Serviio profile for Samsung's series 8 and series 9 (very recent) TV's might be released?

Thanks!

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

I need a profile H-HU. (model HU8500)
I have problems with big files by using E-F Series profile.
I have a problem when viewing large files (3D mkv 1080p weighing 40 GB) - the film slows down during playback.

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

deant wrote:I have a Samsung UA65HU8500 smart TV.

  Code:
      <DeviceDescription>
         <ExtraElements>
              <sec:ProductCap>smi,DCM10,getMediaInfo.sec,getCaptionInfo.sec</sec:ProductCap>
            <sec:X_ProductCap>smi,DCM10,getMediaInfo.sec,getCaptionInfo.sec</sec:X_ProductCap>
         </ExtraElements>
      </DeviceDescription>

Thanks!

Deant, I also have an HU model, and have encountered some of the same issues. I too have removed all transcoding segments from Karnith's profile. I only have a single transcoding line, attempting to handle WTV files. it seems to be the only thing the TV won't play natively. However, there seems to be an issue with the way Samsung handles files that are being transcoded. Zip feels that they won't support any transcoding, which doesn't work well for me. In fact I just bought a new Toshiba BD player today to improve my streaming experience. Everything else about the TV is so good, this one little bit is annoying.

Question: are any of your videos DVD rips into a MKV container? If so, is there any noticeable stuttering of the video during playback? I have encountered this, and it's particularly annoying. Very subtle, but once you notice it it's very distracting. It only occurs with video files using MPEG2 video codec. Container and audio codec doesn't matter, and there's no sound problem. I can stream very high bitrate H264 videos with no issue. I submitted a service request to Samsung, and hope to have a tech here this week to look it over. Only a month old, so I hope they figure it out.

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

Hi atc98092. I don't *think* I have any MPEG-2 video inside an mkv; normally if I was going to make an .mkv from a DVD I'd use something like Handbrake, to generate H.264-encoded video. And I haven't done that at all often.
Anyhow it isn't actually my TV, in fact it's my parents'; I just did the streaming video setup for them. So I haven't watched that much on it. But no, I haven't noticed any stuttering, either (at least none associated with particular files, containers, or codecs; on rare occasions I've seen random, intermittent stutters or freezes, though). I really haven't looked at the Serviio setup for it since I last posted here, since at that point nearly all of the video files on their computer already seemed to work just fine.

It does occur to me that it might be neither the TV nor the container/codec at fault here: I believe that MPEG-2 is much less compressed than codecs like H.264 or Xvid, and so requires a much larger bandwidth to stream it, for the same apparent video quality. Therefore The stuttering might be because you're maxing out your WiFi bandwidth, or because there's too much WiFi interference or other network traffic to stream that much data perfectly smoothly (etc.). I don't see offhand why the .mkv container would make a difference, but perhaps it affects buffering in some manner. Just a thought!

R.e. transcoding though, if it's done correctly, it should be completely transparent to the TV - i.e. the TV should have no way to tell whether the data stream it's getting is the raw content of a file on your computer or the output of Serviio's on-the-fly transcoding process applied to that file. At least, it's always technically *possible* to transcode in a completely transparent manner like this... I don't know if Serviio actually does so, or if it somehow tags the stream as having had transcoding applied. But regardless, the key point is that it won't be a matter of your Samsung TV "supporting transcoding": this is something that's done in your computer, before any data even gets to the TV, and as long as the data that *does* get threre is in a valid format the TV can play, then you shouldn't have a problem. The trick, of course, is getting it from whatever it currently is into such a valid format!

Hi everyone,

I created this issue to hopefully get a Samsung H profile included in Serviio in the future:

Hy!
I have purchased a 55h6400 samsung tv and now i cannot play movies trough my network with subtitles.
I tried to edit profiles.xml but probably i did something wrong becouse serviio refuses to start after that. Can you help please providing a right profiles.xml file or just give me a hint for what to do.
Thanks.

What sort of video are you playing? With my H4500 everything I have plays without transcoding, and the TV will display captions if available. Most of mine are in the MKV container, although there are some M2TS as well. If your video requires transcoding, then captions will likely not be available, as transcoding strips the text from the file.

Hi krakowias.

Back up your original profiles.xml file, then try replacing it with the attached one below.
(Alternatively, just copy the two new profiles, at lines 617-745, into your existing profiles.xml file; this is probably the better option as my profiles.xml might well be out-of-date. You need to respect the structure of the XML file when inserting into it. If you've no idea what that means, then the simplest advice is to paste the new bit right before the last line of your existing file - i.e. AFTER "</Profile>" but BEFORE "</Profiles>". Note that additional blank lines in the file don't matter.)

There are two new Samsung series H profiles included. The first one, "Samsung TV / player (H-series)" (id = "sam_h"), is essentially the minimal modification of the Samsung series E/F profile, as suggested by Karnith.
That profile actually didn't work very well for me - I couldn't get subtitles, and many of the files that worked with the "generic" profile refused to play with this one. I left it in only for comparison/testing - maybe someone who understands the Serviio transcoding features better than I do can fix it.

The other one, "Samsung TV / player (H-series) + NO transcode" (id = "sam_h_nt") has had all the transcoding sections removed. I find that with that profile I can play *almost* everything (.ogm files don't work, nor does anything with flac audio, but most common video formats I've tried do), and subitles *DO* now work (both internal and external .srt ones, provided - I think? - that the .srt file name matches the video file name exactly, e.g. myvideo.mp4 and myvideo.srt).

For some reason, auto-device-detection doesn't work for either profile, so you'll have to select the profile you want to use manually.

Until there's an official Serviio profile for the Samsung H series, I think it's the best we can do right now.

Good luck with it! :)

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

Just for reference, here's the complete no-transcoding profile that I'm using. It's pretty short! Also, it was mainly arrived at by trial and error, so treat it with a degree of skepticism!

  Code:
  <Profile id="sam_h_nt" name="Samsung TV / player (H-series) + NO transcode" extendsProfileId="1">
    <ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>org.serviio.upnp.service.contentdirectory.SamsungDLNAMessageBuilder</ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>
    <ResourceTransportProtocolHandler>org.serviio.upnp.protocol.http.transport.SamsungWiseLinkProtocolHandler</ResourceTransportProtocolHandler>
    <Detection>
      <UPnPSearch>
        <FriendlyName>(^\[TV\][A-Z]{2}\d{2}H[A-Z]?\d{3,4}.*)|^\[TV\] Samsung</FriendlyName>
        <ModelNumber>(1\.0)|(AllShare1\.0)</ModelNumber>
      </UPnPSearch>
      <HttpHeaders>
        <!-- for BD players -->
        <User-Agent>(.*SEC_HHP_BD-H.*)|(.*SEC_HHP_\[(HT|BD)\]H.*)</User-Agent>
      </HttpHeaders>
    </Detection>
    <MediaFormatProfiles>
      <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/x-mkv">MATROSKA</MediaFormatProfile>
      <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="audio/x-flac">FLAC</MediaFormatProfile>
    </MediaFormatProfiles>
    <ContentDirectoryDefinitionFilter>org.serviio.upnp.service.contentdirectory.definition.SamsungContentDirectoryDefinitionFilter</ContentDirectoryDefinitionFilter>
    <H264LevelCheck>FILE_ATTRIBUTES</H264LevelCheck>
    <AutomaticImageRotation>true</AutomaticImageRotation>
    <LimitImageResolution>false</LimitImageResolution>
    <Subtitles>
      <SoftSubs mime-type="smi/caption"/>
    </Subtitles>
    <ThumbnailsResolution>HD</ThumbnailsResolution>
  </Profile>

... you could probably shrink it further by removing the <Detection> section, since that doesn't seem to work anyway.

Since the last Update for my H7080 works nothing.
No subtitles and some Files brings the TV to a Reboot!

I've downloaded this profile, selected it on my TV - and still, it doesn't load anything in the folders, even images or music. I'm so baffled by this.

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

@Biffaboy, @unmatched - just to confirm, you selected the "Samsung TV / player (H-series) + NO transcode" profile? Because there are two new profiles here, and the one with transcoding never actually worked!

Also try cutting-and-pasting just the new profile into your original profiles.xml, rather than using the attached profiles.xml file: If there's been a new Serviio version released since mid-August 2014, (which is when I created the new profiles on a fresh Serviio installation), other parts of profiles.xml may have changed (there's an initial bit in that file that contains stuff other than actual device profiles), so my attached file may be out-of date. And another thing: Turn the TV off and then on again after changing profiles. I've had caching problems from not doing that (i.e. the TV remembers old information: new files don't appear in their folders, etc.).

If that's not it, then I'm guessing the problem is that series 8 (mine is a UA65HU8500) probably requires a different profile than the series 7 (or earlier)?

Like I said, I came up with the profile basically by deleting and changing bits of the series E/F profile with Karnith's modifications until things worked on my TV. I can't really claim to know how these profiles work in any detail.
However, it does work for my series 8, and apparently for krakowias also. If it doesn't work for series 6 or 7 TVs, that's too bad.

I'm really sorry I can't be of any more help than that, but I'm no expert at this, I'm afraid.

Maybe Karnith or someone else more knowledgeable can help you out?

Re: SAMSUNG H SERIES 2014

Hey,

I have a Samsung 32H6400 with the latest firmware. I've installed Serviio on a RaspberryPi (playback is good and I'm not interested in transcoding).

My problem is that resume doesn't work. I've tried different file types, but result was always the same: hitting the D key gave the error message "Not Available".

I've also experienced the same problem with MediaTomb, Plex and MiniDLNA, so maybe there is something wrong on the TV side.

Any solution/idea about this? I'm willing to do further investigations but I don't really know where to start.
