Re: How do I make Ripped DVD's in ".mkv" format viewable

I never cared for Vista, so I can't remember how different permissions are set. On my Windows 7 computers, what I've usually had to do was to enable the "guest" account (disabled by default) and then give guest full privileges to my shared folders. Since my computers are all in my home, I'm not concerned with unauthorized access to these folders. Since none of them are my OS drive, I'm OK with it.

You have made me wonder one thing: are the shared location(s) you are accessing with Serviio on the same computer, and if so, are there multiple hard drives? You are probably aware that it becomes more difficult to share a drive from one computer to another. Serviio by default runs as a system user, not a local user. This system user doesn't always have access permissions to multiple drives, or drives on other computers. Some people change the Serviio user to their user account. This ensures that whatever access you have as a user, Serviio also has access. This works especially well between computers, with the same user name and password on both computers (assuming you aren't running a Windows Domain).

It's only 6PM here, but I'm heading to bed soon as well. I get up a little after 3 :o
