suddenly media server gone

Hi guys.

Been using Serviio for years now, always worked perfectly and had not a single issue.
I changed literally NOTHING on my setup - in the morning it worked fine - went to work - came back home and game over.

I have a Samsung UE55D7000, a Linksys E2000 Router and using a Macbook Pro as Server.
My WLAN network is secured with WPA2

I tried to restore the TV settings, which did not help. Also checked in my Router Settings if anything has changed, but nothing that popped my eye.
The TV has full connection to my Router (at least as far as I know of) But I am able to use smart TV - youtube, Internet, etc. all works fine. It just does not find my serviio server any more.
Also in the Serviio console I don't see the TV.

Same issue on the iphone with this samsung Smart View App (you know this remote control) That also worked "fine" - shitty app, but it worked, until now. Suddenly it says it cannot find my TV.
I thought maybe it's some router issue, but why should that change intraday without me touching anything? There was no new firmware released or anything else updated. So I am really out of options.

Any help is highly appreciated.

edit: after checking some other posts here I activated the Multicast option in my routers settings. I do see the TV and my Denon Audio System again in the serviio console. However I still don't see the media server on my samsung. Entering via smart function to videos it says nothing connected.

Re: suddenly media server gone

Is it possible to connect the TV with a network cable instead of wireless? This would eliminate any potential issues with a Wi-Fi setting. Is there anti-virus on the Mac that may be blocking the port? I know it was working before, but sometimes a program will get updated and lose its past settings.

I see the same problem, starting this morning. When my laptop has booted I get a message that the server did not start. Rebooted, same thing. I can start it manually, but why didn't it start with Windows like it's supposed to?

Re: suddenly media server gone

Connecting the tv with the Mac directly is not an option. Too inconvenient and too far away.

Regarding the anti virus: not that I know of.

Last couple of days it suddenly worked again. Maybe it was the multicast option.
However now suddenly it does not work again.
I have now the tv in my serviio console but with a red dot.
Multicast is still activated. Nothing has changed. I am really getting depressed here.

The depressing part is that I don't know if it's the fault of the tv, the router, serviio, or myself.
Any more ports I might have to open that are not already open?

Edit: when the tv is off the dot is red. When the tv is in the dot is green. But I still cannot access to the media server :(

Re: suddenly media server gone

I've found those dots don't mean much. My Roku players never turn green, but they work fine. My TVs will turn green, but my Samsung BD player doesn't. My Sony players do. But they all work.

If nothing changes on the computer or the TV, all you are left with is the network. You are using a Linksys router, which I've not had any issues with. If it was Belkin, I'd be suspicious. :P

What version of Serviio are you using? I am suspicious of something getting corrupted, so it might be worth the effort to uninstall and reinstall Serviio. I don't know how much work that is on a Mac.

Re: suddenly media server gone

Are the IP addresses on any of the devices - TV, iPhone or the Serviio server - dynamically assigned, and therefore may have changed?
I recommend assigning reserved addresses (reserved DHCP addresses in the router) for all TV's, media players, and the server - makes life a lot easier.

Re: suddenly media server gone

The ip adresses are fixed. Never changed.

I restarted router, tv and Mac couple times. Now it's working again. I hope this time for good

Using the latest serviio software btw. Also reinstalled that couple of times

Return to Samsung
