serviio and Fedora

There is an error, or at the very least, a clarification that needs to be be made on this link: https://www.serviio.org/index.php?optio ... quirements

Under minimal requirements, it states that Linux must have Java 8 installed.

I can confirm that serviio runs exceedingly well with the default java in Fedora, java-11-openjdk-headless-11.0.9.11-0.fc33.x86_64.

I actually took the advice to heart and installed Java 8. I wasn't able to get serviio to work until I uninstalled Java 8 and relied on the java that was installed with Fedora.

This page should be updated to recommend running serviio with the default java for the particular distro, and if that fails, try java 8.

Re: serviio and Fedora

I can confirm that openjdk-8-jre-1.8.0_254 (which is Java 8) works properly with Serviio 2.1 under Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, and CentOS.

Java 8 is listed as a minimum requirement, and since 11>8, the fact that it works properly with the default version 11 under Fedora is not surprising.

Debian and Ubuntu (by default) do not come with any Java preinstalled, so having Java 8 listed in the minimum requirements for Linux is important.

If you have any important changes to the installation procedures/requirements under Fedora, they should be updated at the Fedora installation wiki page ( https://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=ho ... all:fedora ). (Please do, because the Fedora page is not really valid anymore because it is extremely out of date.)
