Re: Mac user with a PS3

Thank you. We are working on a sticky for a Mac, but need input from Mac users.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

I'm very Mac savvy, so let me know if there is anything I can help with in that regard. I just have to familiarize myself with this software more. I'll update the profile file as suggested and test things later. Stay tuned...

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Ok, I tried both suggestions in the profiles.xml. Neither worked. Apple movies say "data corrupt" and the ones from my camera say "unsupported data"...

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Grrrrr...

Turn on detailed logging (see link) you should be able to see the FFmpeg command that is used for the transcode.
Could you post here the FFmpeg command used for both profiles.xml I suggested?

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Yeah, who knew this would be such a bear... I'll try again with logging. Last night I gave up on the movie trailers and converted them to m4v so we could actually watch them. In retrospect, I do actually remember movie trailers having issues with the old PS3 Media Server. They would actually play... but the last few seconds would get cut off. Last night as a test, I copied one to the PS3 internal hard drive and it would not play there either. This tells me those will always have to be converted. However, like I said, the MOV files from my camera play flawlessly when copied to the PS3 hard drive. There has to be a way to stream them...

Re: Mac user with a PS3

No problem. Where should I go for official feedback? One thing I notice is this sucker uses a LOT of CPU power. I'm assuming it's just updating the library folders since I'm not streaming anything... but right now it's in the background and using up to 277%! What's really weird is even though I have the server set to only use 2 CPU cores, it's still using all 4.

Mac Pro
266Ghz x4 cores
11GB RAM
MacOS 10.6.7

Also, how long is it supposed to take to update the library? This thing's been chugging along for days.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

It all depends on how many files you have in your library. It should lower alot after everything is added to the library.

You can leave your Official Feedback here on the forums. Zip the creator of serviio reads and responds to posts on here every day.

Yeah... it could be taking longer due to my 500GB music library being on a NAS...

Probably. You can check the log to see list of added files and how long it takes to add one.

Once you have added all files you can turn of automatic library checking or have it enabled only for certain folders (if you have some where the content hardly changes).

I don't have PS3 so it's harder to produce a 100% working profile, unlike the guys at PS3MS where they shaped the whole product around supporting PS3 mainly - which then left them with some incompatibilities for other devices. So bear with us, hopefully we can get the profile spot on.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Hey, I appreciate the fact that you guys are working on this. I really do like the features. I've obviously got to rename some of my files though... it puts a Star Trek poster on about 60% of the movies I have. :) Quick question, how do I get MKV support? ALL of my MKVs show up in the list as unsupported data. I assume I just need to add something to the profiles.xml (which I have bookmarked in BBedit ;) )

I check movies on http://www.themoviedb.organd http://www.thetvdb.com to verify the names.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

The MKV's should play - transcoded. Can you post ffmpeg -i of the MKV file, MediaInfo result of the file as well and detailed log of when you're trying to play that file

Re: Mac user with a PS3

That's just it. I dont even get the chance to try to play them because they show up right in the PS3 menu list as "unsupported data". Should I go ahead and try to play one and see what happens?

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Hello. I am also a Mac user with a PS3. I have files that play perfectly on the PS3 via internal HDD, but serviio sends as "Unsupported Data" which can not be played: "The data type is not supported."

Note that I have turned off the transcoding options in serviio... these files are natively supported by the ps3.

For instance,

./ffmpeg -i 1408.m4v

This is an mp4 (m4v) file encoded with HandBrake, then tagged with MetaX. It works perfectly on the Mac via Quicktime or VLC. It works perfectly on the PS3 if copied over to the internal drive. It also streams fine via DLNA if using TVMOBiLi (no transcoder) on the Mac or even WMP12 on Win7. Heck, the PS3 will even play it HTTP streamed via "python -m SimpleHTTPServer 3333"! But, sadly, my favorite application serviio hands out "Unsupported Data". :(

Interestingly enough, another file I encoded using the same process works just fine:

The only difference would be the 5.1 AC3 audio passthru in the "Unsupported Data" file, whereas the one the works contains 6 channel AAC.

EDIT: So I took the first file with AC3 track, demuxed it into elementary streams with mp4box. I then remuxed just the h264 stream and the AAC stream, and the file can now be served successfully. It appears as though serviio is choking when the mp4 contains an AC3 audio track.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

I think this is due to x264 encoding settings that your PS3 does not support: I mean "b_pyramid=2", must be "b_pyramid=1"

Internal DD or USB did not use the same hardware/software than DLNA, that could explain why your file play over DD/USB and not over DNLA.

This the same issue with Sony Bravia TV where more codecs are supported over USB (ex DivX) and not over DLNA.

Re: Mac user with a PS3

Could you have a look at how TVMobili serves the file in Intel's AV Media Controller? Just browse to the file, get Properties ans one of the Resources will be the file. Post protocol-info of the resource.

This will only work on Windows though. Alternatively you could capture packets via Wireshark between PS3 and TvMobili when you start playing the file. It might be that the mime-type is different.

Naw, b-pyramid=2 is the equivalent of "--b-pyramid normal", and affects the video stream only. It is fully supported by the PS3. Note that once I removed the AC3 audio track, the video stream played flawlessly. Also note that every other DLNA (even TvMobili, which has no transcode ability) is capable of sending the file with no issue. There's just something about serviio. :o

Sure thing. That was my next step, but I can't work on it until tomorrow... I'll let you know the results.

This is for the file containing AC3 referenced earlier that doesn't work with serviio. (1408.m4v)
