Got it. Didn't realize there would be a new output file. After I transcode, I'll save off the current file and replace with the new one and force a library refresh. Will advise.

Update. File did not play, same error on the BD player. Here's the (more extended log) from Debug mode.

Question - how much working space (tmp space) does Serviio need? The partition that serviio is installed on is relatively tight for free space. In the menu, I changed the location of the tmp space to a new drive that has much more space. Unfortunately, this didn't fix anything however I did see a pretty big file get generated in that directory (3+ GB).

Just as a check, I configured .jpg and .mp3 streaming to the BD player - all works OK. It's just the videos that are having issues.

After editing the files did you restart serviio? If not I would recommend restarting serviio and trying the files again.

Yes, the services were stopped / started each time after a configuration change.

Tried the Windows version of Serviio to see if it would stream the same file. Same error at the BD player - file is corrupt or invalid.

try and play the file in another render if you can. there are several software renders (players) out there that work pretty good. If you cannot figure out one to use let me know.

Probably your suggestion(s) would be good. Can run on either Ubuntu or Win7. Thanks in advance.

Still broken on my end. No m4v files will play.

I'm about to write off serviio. :(

Re: Quick Assist-m4v files, 0.5.2, file is corrupt or inval

Ok, so you have some m4v files playing (encoded by older version of Handbrake) and some that won't (encoded with latest Handbrake)? It would seems that the stream encoding is the problem. Does the file play from a USB stick? (sorry if you mentioned this before, I didn't read the whole thread)

Re: Quick Assist-m4v files, 0.5.2, file is corrupt or inval

Thanks Zip. I had missed the USB test, just did it. The M4V file won't play from a USB stick. Same error - file is corrupt or invalid.

What does work:

    Windows 7 Host
    Windows media player v12
    Wireless streaming to Sony BDP-570
    Any M4V file that I have encoded with various handbrake versions

What does not work:

    Windows 7 host
    Serviio media player
    Wireless streaming to Sony
    Any M4V file

Also not working

    m4v file on USB directly plugged to Sony player

Do I need to change my Handbrake encoding? WMP is not a solution for me, I really need a player that will work on Ubuntu linux. Re-coding the library would suck!

Re: Quick Assist-m4v files, 0.5.2, file is corrupt or inval

If you want to stream the files natively then it looks like you'll have to reencode them. I suspect WMP transcodes eveyting into mpeg2, maybe you can notice the quality is not great and the CPU is quite high when you play the file.. ?

We could set up the same behaviour but your CPU will go mad ;-)

Well, thanks for all the help.

What are the recommended handbrake encoding settings that would work with Serviio?

Re: Quick Assist-m4v files, 0.5.2, file is corrupt or inval

I was suffering from this issue on my BDP-S480.
Handbrake 0.94 encoded files (MP4 - H264/AAC) worked fine, 0.95 files with the same settings came back with "corrupt or invalid"
If I put the mp4 through handbrake 0.94 with the frame rate forced to 25fps rather then "same as source" the files worked ok.
Re-encoding removed the ffmpeg error:
"Seems stream 0 codec frame rate differs from container frame rate: 180000.00 (180000/1) -> 90000.00 (180000/2)"

Today Sony pushed out an update for my player (M07.R.0319) which seems to have fixed the issue with 0.95 encoded files.

Hope this helps someone!
Graeme

PS Thanks for creating such a fantastic bit of software!

Re: Quick Assist-m4v files, 0.5.2, file is corrupt or inval

I have spent the past couple days dealing with exactly this problem as well. Finding that others ran across the same problem is a bit of a relief, and I've been delighted to see all the support in addressing this issue. Thanks!

Unfortunately I have a Sony S370 (running the latest firmware, M03.R.742) for which it is unlikely that they will issue the necessary update to work with the HB 0.95 encoded files. I'm running on Windows XP. I've got a wired connection, so bandwidth shouldn't be an issue. So I have 3 questions:

1. What magic incantation can I add to the Serviio config for the Sony BD player to have it do all the transcoding for the time being? While not the ideal solution, my computer should be able to handle decent quality transcoding in real time until I re-encode my library.

2. In the future, how should I change the default options in HB 0.95 to make the (re)encoded files compatible with the Sony S370 via Serviio?

3. In the process of trying to debug this, I spent ages staring down my log file. It's filled with repetitions of the a WARN. This seems to be a red herring with regards my current problem, but it would be nice to understand what it's about and to solve it. Note that I'm running Symantec Endpoint Protection, which is has really aggressive firewalling, and I had to add a rule to allow all IP traffic between the WinXP server and the Sony S370. Despite that I had to manually add the Sony S370 as a renderer, as it couldn't be found automatically. I also had to explicitly bind Serviio to the IP address of my Gigabit port (it was apparently trying to use a different IP before). After that, everything works perfectly except for the errors discussed on this thread and my log file filling dramatically. I attach the headers and a few repetitions of the WARN; it's not kidding when it says "will try again."

Hanging on here, having exact same problem; no m4v files playing. When using other formats results in either much larger files or worse quality...

Advice for Serviio / S470 compatibility

This thread has been quiet for a while. However, it there seems to be a real problem using HandBrake 0.95 m4v's with the Sony S470, which could be fixed either by Serviio transcoding or by changes to the use of HandBrake. However I (and apparently others) don't know how to solve these problems.

Sorry to repeat, but I wonder if anyone could answer the following queries from a previous post?

Many thanks!

Re: Quick Assist-m4v files, 0.5.2, file is corrupt or inval

To transcode everything, try this:

  Code:
<Transcoding>
            <Video targetContainer="mpeg" targetACodec="ac3" targetVCodec="mpeg2video">
                <Matches container="mp4" />
                <Matches container="avi" />
                <Matches container="mpegts" />
                <Matches container="mpegvideo" />
                <Matches container="asf" />
                <Matches container="flv" />
                <Matches container="matroska" />
            </Video>
        </Transcoding>
