Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

@unbekannt:
You appear to have carried out extensive testing with the S370 and Serviio: Do have any results concerning subtitles?

@all:
If you choose the Serviio server from the player's video menu, another choice of Video, Images and Music appears. Do we have any option to get rid of this first level of folders and jump directly into the video tree structure?

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

Hi,

I only have tested subtitles in MKVs and the following work fine: SRT und IDX/SUB. Multiple IDX-subtitles work, don't know about mulitple SRTs. A SUP from a BR can be converted to IDX/SUB with BDSup2Sub in a matter of seconds. Quality with IDX is way better than with SRT in my samples, but sadly not as superb as a real BR subtitle :cry:

Edit: Just ran into problems. I have to "resize" the subtitles in BDSup2Sub to 720p, if I choose 1080p or don't convert at all, than mainly glibberish is displayed. But that's only one additional click :)
Edit 2: Just tested again. Enabling an IDX subtitle when streaming will bring the stutter back :cry:

Regarding the folders: This is beeing discussed in a few thread in the forum (section "Feature Requests" for example). So far it doesn't seem possible to change how and if the folders are displayed.

Hallo.
I have upgraded to 0.4.1 but myvideos still suffer from stuttering even without fast forwarding or jumping to other chapters.

I just select the file and the playing (audio and video) stutters....

Thanks

@scapman:

Is there an "DIVX" icon right under the file name when listing the folder contents on the player? Did you change the ID in the profile (0.4.1 has some additional profiles already in profiles.xml, so the ID needs to be incremented to 9, I think).

@ unbekannt:

There is a Divx icon under the file name.
I have reinstalled the 0.4.1 version and re-compiled the xml file.

Now it seems to work fine! :D

Just another issue; with DTS audio it says "audio file format not supported", even though I am still able to listen to the movie...

Same here. I have connected the player to my A/V receiver which takes over the job of decoding from the player. That should explain it. Do you also use an A/V receiver?

Yes.
Ihave the BPD-S370 connected via HDMI to a Sony RHT-G950 Home Theater System, which is capable of deconding DTS though.

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

Hey firstly can I just say big thanks I've just discovered Serviio after buying a Sony BDP-370 but its pretty great and simple..does exactly what I want it to and no messing so keep up the good work.

I've managed to get MKV's and any other file I throw at it working by doing the following. (Just in a nice list for anyone else to easily follow.

1. Installed the program opened the console and added my media files and then giver serviio some time to gather and compile the info it needs. I also set CPU's to 4.

2. Strangly my Sony BDP-370 automatically found serviio and it was just sitting there for me but I expect some people may need to search for the server on their player.

3. I edited the profiles file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Serviio\config and entered the following txt

  Code:
<Profile id="7" name="Sony BDP-S370" extendsProfileId="1">
   <Detection>
      <X-AV-Client-Info>.*Blu-ray Disc Player.*</X-AV-Client-Info>
   </Detection>
   <MediaFormatProfiles>
      <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/divx">MATROSKA</MediaFormatProfile>
   </MediaFormatProfiles>

           <AutomaticImageRotation>true</AutomaticImageRotation>
</Profile>

4. Reset my PC and serviio (well I reset the service, but it would be easier to restart) and then selected the Sony BDP-370 under the profiles selection on the console.

5. Played pretty much every movie file on my PC.

Extra notes. - Like has already been said I also get the audio not compatible issue like you guys when playing MKV's with DTS but I dont have my BDP-370 connected to an AV source like you guys do and still get the "issue" but it doesn't particually worry me personally. Also my videos are also all seemingly registered as the same format on the play, which also doesn't bother me and I've sure is related to the above profile.

Not seem any other issues but will report them if I do. I have a quad core PC, wired network throughout (anyone who trying to stream HD video over wireless should probably rethink things...the player's buffer a certain amount of data so initally they will appear to run smooth but then the data falls behide...there's simply not enough throughput on a Wireless G network, trust me I've tried it on a perfect connection).

Anyway big thanks and I'll keep trying to report any issues I have to hopefully help.

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

I did the same changes that wisepass did to Serviio and still cannot get any of my videos to play. The BDP-S370 can see my PC, and I can view/play MPEG movies via Windows Media. When I go under BDP-S370's MUSIC folder and click on Serviio, I can then go under Movies folder and see my PC's folder structure. When I go into a folder to play a MKV or whatever, I get a popup stating "No playable files found". In fact, it doesn't even see my MPEGs either. Anyone could help, I would appreciate it.

Can you post the log to see if your video files have been added to the library?

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

For what it's worth, I have the same problem with the Serviio server not appearing under the video section of the BDP-S370, and am not sure why. I'm beginning to suspect an issue with the firmware.

I've extended the default profile in the config XML as described in this thread, and here are relevant parts of the log (I see this repeated about 3 times):

This is all ok, the player just gets descriptions of Serviio's services. Not sure what your problem is, it seems to work for some.. ?

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

Been having a problem using Serviio & the S370 with subtitled MKV's. Was a little confused to begin with, because some would play fine while others did not, but I've narrowed it down to the unsupported MKV's having subtitles. I don't really care about having subtitles, so is there someway of transcoding this in serviio?

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

You could try this (which will remux all MKV files into mpeg2ts with the same audio/video streams):
  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts">
   <Matches container="matroska" />
</Video>

or if it's not playable, this (which will transcode MKV files into mpeg2ts with mpeg2 video and ac3 audio):
  Code:
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
   <Matches container="matroska" />
</Video>

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

Hmm, adding either of those to a profile results in the service refusing to start with the logged error message:

ERROR [XmlUtils] XML Profiles.xsd didn't pass validation, reason: cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'Video'. One of '{ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder, ProtocolInfo, DeviceDescription, ResourceTransportProtocolHandler, ContentDirectoryDefinitionFilter, Transcoding, LimitImageResolution, SubtitlesMimeType}' is expected.

Strangely, in some of the other pre-set profiles, the same structure is used with no problem.

EDIT: Whoops, my bad! Forgot the transcoding tags

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

Ok, from further testing.

The first profile will remove all mkv's from the menu, both with and without the earlier code which makes the player see them as DivX files.

The second profile will display mkv's as M2TS files, but then all MKV's (subtitled or not) became Corrupt/Unsupported.

I also did a further test of removing the subtitles stream using an MKV editor. This caused the player to hang while loading the file, and I had to pull the plug to fix it :( Tested the stripped file in WMP too and that just gave the unsupported message rather then hanging.

Hope there's some useful information in there, I think I must be doing something wrong.

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

YOu can turn on detailed logging and see what ffmpeg command is invoked when transcoding. You can then try tweaking it to produce a file that your player can play (without further transcoding). If you come up with something I'll be glad to incorporate it into a future version, if possible.

Re: Problems with MKV / H.264 on Sony BDP-S370 Bluray-Player

My solution in the end was unrelated to subtitles. Turns out it was a problem with the profile levels of certain files. Edited them to level 4 and now they're working fine. Guess that's a problem with the player, so sorry for wasting your time :)
