SUCCESS.
Recapping for anyone else with similar configuration: Samsung D6000, iMac running OS/Lion, D-Link DSL+ Modem (N)/Router, LG Bluray Player.
Serviio is now working on my D6000. One problem solved and a few usage notes for how Serviio appears in the Samsung Smart TV menu.
I had originally configured the TV with a 60+' LAN cable across 3 rooms before the WiFi LinkStick came. At the time I had given up on Allshare because of the Windows requirement. The LinkStick arrived, I set it up using the same LAN address and everything worked fine for streaming Smart TV apps. The wire got rolled up and put away! Then I found Serviio and the fun began.
If I configured the D6000 with WiFi and the LAN address (...249) I used when it was wired. "Serviio" didn't work. If I changed the WiFi LAN address, my router showed 2 IPs, both ping-able and both with the same MAC address for the TV!!! ...249 was always there and, any new WiFi IP address I used showed up. I got a little way into Serviio working but nothing constant or consistent.
Nothing I did could get rid of ...249. UNTIL, I ran my 60-footer again and went into wired configuration and still saw the ...249 address. I nulled-out the wired LAN settings, disconnected the wire, reconnected the LinkStick and VOILA...no more ...249 and only one IP on the router. Also, smooth operation of Serviio.
Not being a network person (and also a new Mac user), I think this is a Samsung firmware problem. I do the same (same wired/WiFi IP address) with other devices and I have never seen this happen before as long as one interface is active at a time.
Other notes for Samsung/iMac users, uncorroborated as of now as I am only now seeing expected results.
1. When you select Allshare from the Smart TV menu, the error "No device connected" appears. No need to worry; see #3. I guess this is "normal".
2. I usually made sure Serviio was up and the iMac is not asleep before starting the TV. (This is not critical as stopping and starting the Serviio server finds the TV easily.) The iMac does seem to sleep with only Serviio running--even though no sleeping on network activity is checked. It does not sleep when downloading big files, however.
3. If you go to the Smart TV menu items for Photo, Video or Music--you are attached to Serviio on the iMac just as if it were a USB attached storage device. Obviously, I do not have much experience with the interface as of yet. I did use a Serviio "path", not a "local" definition, for the iTunes library. This save a lot of clicking through the folder view to find music.
4. The Samsung C/D profile is not rendering my .mov files. The Samsung B profile does when I use it on the D-series TV.
5. Videos get very flaky names and I have seen other posts for this. I tried using "No descriptive metadata" but no change.
6. WiFi (N) seems very stable and workable.
7. Played with changing cores number for transcoding. No apparent affect I see?
8. Looking for info on what Display Category and Display Content-Only is supposed to do. Looking for the most facile navigation on the TV.
All-in-all, Serviio is very nice and I recommend it. Also, the support dialog very responsive.
6. The album art for the PLAYING audio selection never changes; the song title and other data do. Album art does appear correctly on other selection screens, just not on the playing screen.
