Samsung UE55D8090: time search for FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG)

I’m using a Samsung UE55D8090 SmartTV and Serviio v0.6.1 running on a PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. In the Serviio console I have selected the profile “Samsung TV / player (C/D)-series)” .
For some video formats like MKV, mp4, mov, MPEG-2 TS (AVC) I can use the function Time Search at my SmartTV to position forward or backward within the video.
For the video formats FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) the Time Search function is not supported. Can I customize Serviio to enable Time Search also for FLV and MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) ?

Your one word answer "nope" is no help at all. If it is not possible I would like to understand the reason.
I would appreciate if Zip (Serviio developer / Site Admin) could answer my question, because he already gave me a solution for a problem where you also answered with a "no". Sorry for that. I understand that not everbody can answer everything. I hope it's OK for you if I ask Zip for his view.

TV does not support that function for those file types, because they are not supported natively so have to be transcoded by serviio to make them play. better ???

nope ZIP gave you a solution to convert ALL wmv files (wmv1, wmv2) not just wmv1, so in actual fact your transcoding alot more than you need to, just to sort your wm1 files.

I dont even know what this functionality does and don't have the TV so cannot really comment but looks like it's either:

1) disabled by the TV for some formats (mpeg)
2) doesn't work with transcoded files (flv)

Re: Samsung UE55D8090: time search for FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG)

As I have previously posted, yelled at Samsung about, posted on CNET Samsung forums, the D Series units, unbelievably do not support ff/rew on MPEG files! Hence NO transcoded video (which are all MPEGS) maybe FF/REW.

Since my D series will support AVC.flv files natively even though it is undocumented this only creates a ff/rew problem for H263/VP6.flv files which must be transcoded. If you set high quality, YOUTUBE will provide their AVC.flv versions instead of their lower quality versions.

Re: Samsung UE55D8090: time search for FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG)

The problem, that for the video formats FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) the FF/REW function is not supported is in my opinion not a Samsung problem but a Serviio problem. Why do I believe this?

If I select Window 7 DLNA server (comes with the Windows Media Player) as the partner for my Samsung SmartTV DLNA client, then FLV videos and MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) videos are streamed to my SmartTV and for both file formats FF and REW (scrolling forward and backword in the video) work. But if I select Serviio as DLNA server, FF and REW is not possible for FLV videos and MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) videos.

Therefore FF and REW are features which are possible for FLV or MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) . FF and REW are features Samsung does support for FLV or MPEG-2 TS (MPEG) videos, if the Samsung SmartTV DLNA client gets the appropriate DLNA server as partner. Unfortunately in these cases Serviio is missing FF, REW.

Re: Samsung UE55D8090: time search for FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG)

can you post ffmpeg -i of a flv and mpegts file that play with ffwd via the Samsung software?

YOu could also post properties and resources of the 2 files as seen in AV Media Controller (Intel tools) when served by the Samsung software (note you'll have to add your PC's IP address to the allowed IP addresses in the Samsung server for it to appear in the server's list in the tool).

Re: Samsung UE55D8090: time search for FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG)

Hmmm... Alfons, check Samsung profile in Serviio. The default one transcodes FLV and our TVs do not support FW/RW of the transcoded files. Amend the profile to remove transconding for FLV files (like I did) and Voila! you'll have that feature available for you. It's not Serviio's fault at all. It's a profile configuration in Serviio for your DLNA player.

Try to play with profiles.xml and you'll find an answer.

My Serviio plays almost every file I have now after I modified profiles.xml to match my TV (Samsung 51D6900), some of them lack FW/RW as they are transcoded.

Re: Samsung UE55D8090: time search for FLV, MPEG-2 TS (MPEG)

Same problem with my UE40D6500, under Windows 7 with Samsung C/D profile with transcoding unchecked on FLV files I have the option to Time Search, under Ubuntu 11.10 on same files I do not, but after I select Generic DLNA profile the option is there again :) so it's probably a profile setting somewhere that will help you solve the issue
