Serviio console not starting

Hi all,

I searched the forums but couldn't find anything similar to my problems so apologies if this is a repeat of another topic.

I have just installed Serviio and I cannot get the console to startup. It shows up in the task manager as though it is running but I can't see it anywhere, switch to it, etc. Very frustrating.

Running Windows 7 64bit with Java Version 6 (update 30) also 64 bit. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling Java, Serviio, etc. but all to no avail.

Any hints? I've read plenty of reports about how Serviio is the best DLNA server out there but this is really spoiling my fun...

is there not a little yellow icon on taskbar by the clock? have you try killing the console process, and rerunning it from the Bat file in serviio\bin\ directory ?

No yellow icon in the taskbar by the clock but killing the process and trying to restart via the batch file worked. Got a few other issues now though. Will try more searches to work through them.

nope i know what the issue is server is starting before network is ready for it, so then console fails to as it requires the server befre it will start.

I found this article and thought I was onto a winner but alas, no dice. When the computer reboots I get a message about the service not running and the console can't connect when I set it to delayed start. Manually starting the service and then running the batch file from the command line now has no impact. Nothing has changed in my setup except for changing the rendering profile for my TV and then rebooting to see if this had any effect.

hello airsick what version win 7 x64 are you using?
had this similar problem before when i was using windows 7 x64 enterprise did everything i can but didnt work!
i reformated and installed new os and used windows 7 x64 ultimate and everything went ok
but wasnt able to pinpoint if enterprise had a problem with serviio or java , went straight to installing the ultimate version
try to reinstall a fresh copy of your os and start from thier

2 of us having problems was solve just by reinstalling windows os
here's the thread, both of us ended up reinstalling and everything was good "wish had done it sooner, it took me more then a week of testing till i finally gave up and decided to reformat, would have save me the head ache hahahaha"

Thanks for your help guys but I've given up on this. No errors in the log, tried reinstalling Serviio, Java, etc. plus a few other things to get it going and still no luck. Reinstalling Windows is too much. If it won;t work out of the box then sorry, it's just not worth it. I ain't going to sit through hours of reinstalling Windows, apps, then Serviio just on the hope that it will fix this problem.

On the upside, I have installed the software onto a VM running Win Server 2K3 and it runs nicely. Unfortunately I can't take it with me when I travel so it isn't portable which is what I was hoping for but hey, I guess you can't have everything...

Hello All,
I'm a newbie as of today. My knowledge is limited.

My goal is to stream pictures and music from my notebook to my TV as follows:
TO: a Panasonic VIERA Plasma HDTV model TC-P60S30 equipped with Panasonic's Wireless LAN Adapter model DY-WL10PP-K.
FROM: a Hewlett-Packard model HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC running Windows 7 Home Premium.
SET-UP: High-speed internet service and HD Cable service are provided by a company called Century Link - Prism over a CISCO 1399 Router connected by coaxial cable to a Motorola DVR model VIP 1232. The TV and DVR are connected by coaxial cable. The TV and Notebook are connected to each other wirelessly. I think the Century Link services are managed by a Microsoft product called Mediaroom. (The overall set-up also includes another TV and secondary DVR box connected to the CISCO Router.)

WHY SERVIIO: Panasonic's manual for the TV states "The DNLA control function of Windows 7 is not supported with this TV." After a lot of searching, guessing and Forum reading, I've selected Serviio as a tool to perform the streaming that Windows 7 cannot do with this TV.

PROGRESS TO DATE: CONSOLE DOES NOT DISPLAY
I've installed Serviio on my PC. The Serviio Console does not display. I have no button in the system tray. I have a Servio button on the Start menu, but clicking it does nothing. The Windows Task Manager shows the Serviio services are runnung. The TV's VIERA Tools work: I can connect from the TV to subscribed internet services such as Netflix, Facebook and others. Also the VIERA tools find the DNLA Server named Serviio. However there are no files or folders available to the TV from this DNLA Server. The Windows Media Player (version 12) seems to recognize Serviio as an "Other Library", but I can't figure out how to put anything in it or whether I even should.
(The two DVR boxes were intermittently freezing up at first, but I think this is an unrelated issue caused by trying to record and play too many items to/from the DVR all at once. This settled down once the recording tasks completed.)

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Serviio from the PC. I've used the Windows Task Manager to stop the Servio services and tried starting them and the console again using the batch files. This failed.

Removing and reinstalling Windows 7, as recommended in other members' posts in this topic, is not a good option for me as I'm not a power-user and I don't want to take the risk of really screwing things up.

If you look in the directory that you installed serviio in there will be a serviioconsole program. It should have been added to the startmenu but sounds like for some reason it did not. When you find serviioconsole you can double click on it to start the console.

@RichardJLegault - update your Java to 1.6 update 30.

Installed Java 1.6 Update 30 and rebooted. Still no console. Serviio button on the start menu still does nothing. Double clicking the Servio-console exe or batch files they don't run. The batch file makes a command prompt window flash open and closed for about a nano-second but that's it. Same thing if I right-click them and run as administrator.
Any other ideas?

Try and re-install serviio and see if that helps. There is nothing in the log about the console even trying to start. If you want you can use the below third party app until we can get this working correctly.

Okay, thank you everyone. You have the thanks of a grateful mere mortal for all your help and suggestions. But this is getting way too complicated for me. From my very simple minded point of view Serviio is simply not yet sufficiently mature for an ordinary user like me.
I've had other alternatives pointed out to me that I think will work much better. One is TVersity, which you guys might want to look at.
