MKV with H.264 encoding and AC-3 audio, or AAC audio play without transcoding.

WITH transcoding they do play, but HD video quality is not as good, and in some scenes, just plain bad. I do not think this is a profile issue, so not relevant in this thread if you just want to know that the files play... (not trying to be an ass, just mention for completeness)

Same in the case of MP4 files, H.264 and AC-3 or AAC plays.

Increasing the number of ref frames is just one way to cause the problem.

I can take a video, and encode a few samples with increasing number of ref frames, and sooner or later, the file will not play. BUT, it will not always happen with the SAME number of ref frames, or the SAME Level (depends on frame size, and other factors). For example, memory is not always allocated as a function of resolution and ref frames. Sometimes as a function of resolution using modulo 16 math, and (# of ref frames +1). Not sure how it is done on this TV, but if level detection does not match, problems WILL show up sooner or later.

I will do that later. In general, my H.264 test files play the same, or better in MKV container with no remux into MPEG-TS, not sure about this one.

You have 2 subs inside the mkv with different formats and different languages, try to remuxe again and remove the one you don't need.
And there's no need to transcode cause both audio and video should play without transcoding on your TV.

There are no issue with subs inside mkv. Without transcoding/remuxing they both payed fine.

Are you sure that VT30 do not support AVI? VT30 is Panasonic top model. It's not logical to suport less formats than GT30 and other. If unshure move it to the second group, so people with VT30 start test with AVI support.

There is a profile on the first post (second one down as you have e30 series ) you need to copy that profile to you profile.xml file in your serviio directory and then restart serviio, once restarted select the new profile for your device and try playing all your files and report to me if any dont play. hopefully they all do reading through this thtread will also help you understand exactly what we are doing and if you get stuck just ask and we will help you .

Belated thanks for such a warm welcome, by the way... Have to admit this profile + the software update (not sure which one did it in the end) are magical - everything works including p1024 vids, which previously stuttered and do not play if I hook the hdd up to the tv itself. I failed to present it with a file, that wouldn't play well... So I thought and then I bumped into this (it plays in mpc with k-lite megacodec pack installed), but on the tv audio is fine, video is slideshow. I did this splitting myself some time back to play the vid on xbox directly...

once agian I just remux using mkvmerge and the new file plays fine.

yep nandub is a known issue, files never work right.

I do realize the split itself is unorthodox in its means of creation, however, why would it play on the pc, but not on the tv?

http://www.winnydows.com - that's where the encoder is from, and I used a daily beta to make that split. Its earlier opensourced version fares better, although not faster: http://code.google.com/p/xvid4psp/downloads/list. Really is an amazing piece of software if you're with xbox 360 without lan and need subs to work.

Says "cannot read file" in both cases although in case of forbidden kingdom started playing preview. both files naturally work on pc.

Also need your advice - given this tv doesn't see subtitles unless the file is .avi + .srt, what software do I use to convert my .mkv => .avi + .srt if mkv has h264 inside and what audio codec would work in this new avi?

upon conversion of the initial file to mkv - the file becomes unplayable completely and only playable on pc with vlc, but not with mpc, converted with mkv merge, like you suggested.

see your using some really nasty encoding software packages, and they are adding odd encoding settling that ffmpeg and the tv dont like.

there is only 2 encoders id recommend and that is mkvmerge and virtualdub.

there are several encoding programs that are known to cause problems YAMB and NANDUB are two of them as for XVID4PSP i have never heard of it, most people use handbrake or mkvmerge to build there files, but thats taking the topic of track its not about what encoder is best its about getting the best profile for the device, and i cant take encoder used into account.

To answer your question as you asked it, this file plays differently/better with the line you specified removed. But not 100%. To analyze just the stutter issue, I think this file is a red herring.

The problem voodooo and I started working together occurs with this particular video when the number of ref frames increases from 9 to 10. I created test files with different number of reference frames:

5 ref frames and above, there are some issues during playback, but not all are the same.

9 or fewer ref frames = some issues, but no stutter (Media Info reports Main@L 4.0)

10 or more ref frames = stutter (Media Info reports Main @ Level 5.0)

yer i have a feeling, we are barking up the wrong tree with this, but i wont go into details till i have spoken to ZIP, so far i think we have the profile as good as its going to get, at teh current time.

ok think i might have fixed the problems with mkv i was seeing so hopefully this will sort the stutter too.

assuming your running windows 64bit.

download and replace your ffmpeg.exe file with this one (rename your old file .bak incase your have to go back to it) and restart serviio do your files still stutter?
