*Working* WTV files on Samsung B-series

Hey everyone, Just wanted to share for those who might have been having issues with WTV files still. I'm new to serviio and after cancelling Cable I had one requirement from my wife, to be able to record OTA HD series shows. I hope you find it usefull, I followed the directions from here: http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=win_ffmpeg. Serviio folks, any chance you will release with the updated FFMPEG?

The short is that I simply replaced the FFMPEG.EXE with the updated one from this site (as seen in another post): http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ and I used the FFmpeg git-e01f478 64-bit Static (Latest) (2012-03-19) file.

All i can say is that it works GREAT! I can FWD/FFWD, RWD and I have no lag or choppiness in the picture or audio. I've only looked at one show so far, but will continue to test.

Here is the long story:

I've tested so many server type apps for Samsung and for my Roku: Plex, Serviio (as is), Mezzmo, Roksbox, PS3 Media Server, . Some definitely played the WTV file, but wouldn't allow or allow easily the FWD/RWD features and if it did it would lag terribly and loose quality or stop playing all together. Mezzmo might work if I replaced the FFMPEG file like I did here, but i have to pay for it which wouldn't make sense to me.

On my PC end, I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz, with 16 GB RAM and WIN 7 64 bit.
I am using a hardline all the way around, so no wifi setup.

Re: *Working* WTV files on Samsung B-series

I think this pretty much validates what Panasonic told me... it is not so much the server software (in this case Serviio), but issues come from the way ffmpeg transcodes the files that originate in WMC.

When the server software invokes ffmpeg, there may be temporary workarounds using the various ffmpeg options, but they may only last as long as the version of ffmpeg is current. So if you and I use different versions of ffmpeg with the same server software, the results can still be different for the same .wtv files.

I tried a couple newer ffmpeg builds, but then I switched back to the one that came w. serviio 0.6.2 b/c there were other issues with the new builds. (specifically, some files ripped using MakeMKV stopped working)

I think what the folks working on ffmpeg are doing, is changing the default options used within ffmpeg to invoke the various encoding libraries, and at the same time, the version of encoder library may also change, so it is pretty much the proverbial crapshoot whether your file will ultimately play... :x

Re: *Working* WTV files on Samsung B-series

Seems to be the case. I will just add that I finally had a chance to play with a few more WTV files (had to wait for the kids naps). It does play very smoothly, however, the FWD/RWD wasn't as great as I thought, but still very usable and better than other versions I used.

FWD/RWD works at the start and jumps 10 secs at a time. But after playing a show for a while FWD actually first rewinds a bit. But I can use FFWD to get a bit more ahead, although it isn't as accurate as I would like. Guess I'm not going to get exactly what I was looking for, but this works for the most part and the quality is still as good as the original OTA broadcast.
