Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

Hi All

Thanks for the hardwork but i'm currently having a bit of a headache trying to get serviio streaming To my Samsung UE46D5520 TV from the serviio server. I've plenty of 1080p DTS MKVs which when I try to play on my Samsung just say "Not supported File Format". My Standard definition .AVIs play absolutely fine. My Server is a Synology NAS DS212j and ffmpeg output of one file is here:

  Code:

I know it does say header stripping but i've a few other files which have no header stripping yet they still don't play so I'm wondering if anyone can spot anything else wrong within this file.

Thanks in advance

Re: Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

this will be caused by header stripping. Try to remove that and see if it plays then.

Are you using the right profile? A detailed log might also shed some light on this.

Re: Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

Yeah on the Serviio package on the Synology I can see the green dot next to "Samsung C / D Series TV / Reciever" and the Sammy's IP address, so I think it is picking up the right profile. However even if i try to change that it just reverts back to the Samsung profile. Anyway long and short of it is I think the profile is OK.

I'll enable detailed logging (hoping it's the same instructions for the Synology Package) and do some playing around tonight and get back to you.

Thanks for reading and your resposnes so far.

Cheers

ok - interesting what you say about profiles:

So, to me it looks like it's trying to play using the generc DLNA profile.

I've noticed I've got 2 recognised connections for the TV (please see attached screen shot)

I've tried deleting the non samsung one but it just keeps coming back, i've tried stopping / starting the server...any other ideas at all?

Re: Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

that is weird, not sure if it's a bug in the UI or the server (the fact that you cannot delete it). Try to remove both .4 entries and retstart serviio.

Re: Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

Yeah tried that - even if i delete all devices, stop the service then load the GUI back up again the devices all reappear.

I really think it's becuase I use DHCP and the Samsung telly now has the address another device (probably my macbook) had which i was using to test connectivity when i initially installed serviio.

I don't think its anything uninstalling and reinstalling the whole package won't cure but before i do that I might try to get the attention of patters, the chap who wrote the package, see if the there's anything i can hack to get shot of those devices.

Re: Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

I've not seen that kind of behaviour on mine. However, I have set my devices to always get the same IP reservation on my broadband router (which I think is the general recommendation for Serviio). If it has somehow got corrupted (could be WebUI-related as Zip says) then I'd recommend you uninstall the package completely and start again.

If you still get problems, perhaps configure Serviio using the Serviio Remote Console from another computer so as to eliminate the WebUI from the equation.

Hi

Just to tell you all its fixed. I've set my devices to get the same IP address from my router and uninstalled and reinstalled serviio on my NAS. I now still get 2 entries for the samsung telly (same ip addresses) but now when i change the one which defaulted to the generic profile to the samsung profile the change sticks and it doesn;t revert back to the generic profile like it kept doing before - i still can't delete one of them though. I'm seeing the same behaviour through the client itslef on the NAS and the web Client.

Anyway, I don;t really mind. Alls working really well - everything I've tried so far plays. Very happy with it - thanks for all your hardwork in making this a great little media server.

Ha! yes - to clarify - very big in terms of following / userbase, but my NAS will tell you it's little in terms of footprint on it's resources :D

Re: Can't play any mkvs on Samsung telly from Synology NAS

Hey, great post and follow up with resolution. I've been suffering with the same problems for the past couple of months, but this has allowed me now to play .mkv format.

I wasn't aware that the profile was selectable from a drop down, or that the erroneous devices that appeared in the list could be deleted.

For the record I have a UE32D5000 with a fixed IP, which appeared twice in the list of devices, plus two other PCs (Ubuntu). I deleted the three incorrect devices and changed the profile of the TV and now I can play .mkv files. Serviio is running on a Xen VM (Debian Squeeze).

Once again cheers for the software and the solution!

Jimmy
