The black art of "sharing" in Vista!

Try as I might I doubt I will ever understand the Windows logic of "sharing".
On my Vista PC, I have "shared" the Blue "Pictures" folder in the full and certain knowledge that all sub-folders will inherit this shared state.
......Wrong! only those sub-folders which Serviio fancies viewing will be shared!

How do I get to see those which Serviio doesn't want to show me?

Sharing in Windows has nothing to do with sharing in Serviio. You just have to make sure access rights on all the folders are the same as on those that work. You can also check the log to see if Serviio attempts to share files from those folders.

Where do I look for "access rights"?
Is that what Vista calls "Permissions" found on the "Security" tab?
If so they're all the same; there is no difference between the files that Serviio can see and those it can't.

Either way, that doesn't explain why the folder "All Holidays" has been made visible to Serviio merely by prefixing the same hitherto invisible folder, previously named just "Holidays" with the word "All"........no other changes were made to the folder to achieve this.

I'll try to look at the log , but I don't understand how Serviio could try to access files which are in folders that are invisible to it?

One Runs from 28 May 2011 to 13 June 2011
Another from 15 July 2011 to 25 Aug 2011
and a current one running from 10 May 2012 upto today as attached.
Sorry, I can't understand it, does it shed any light?

There is also a "derby.log" refering to Apache software and Java, is that important?

I suggest you reinstall Serviio, turn on detailed log (see my signature) and then add some folders. then we should see what is going on. This log doesn't show anything unfortunately.
