problems adding to library with 1.0

Hi,

I updated to serviio 1.0 the other day from 0.6.2, I just installed over the top of it like the instructions say. I thought something had gone wrong as not all the files were able to be seen by the tv anymore so I uninstalled servio and stared afresh with 1.0.

Now I can only add 2 locations to the the Library in serviio console, if I try and add a 3rd location ( all on c drive) and click save the serviio console freezes, I tried leaving it for ages a few times and it stays frozen, I can only kill it with task manager.

The 2 file locations that I can add dont work properly either, one is photos and that isnt showing anything at all after atleast 5 hours and the other is a video folder and only a few things are showing on the TV.

I have 2 serviioservice.exe ( i think thats what they are called) running in taskmanager/processes, one just uses a bit of memory and no cpu and the other uses quite a bit of memory and about 33%cpu all the time, also servio console is there too but thats to be expected. Serviio is also running as a service as normal.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now and also got rid of all my old Java programs and installed the latest java 7, still not working.

Serviio 0.6.2 seemed to work ok, i only had a few profile problems with my Panasonic ET5B, hoped the version 1.0 would help.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks
Mark

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

Just found out it also freezes when I removed my pictures folder from the library and clicked Save. It does this with both the server running or stoped.

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

i uninstalled 1.0 because of huge processor use; usually around 50 per cent, rarely under 33 per cent. i also had problems with online sources not working but did not try to fix the file permissions issue mentioned. hopefully the processor use can be ironed out or at least diagnosed to an issue.

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

When you install 1.0 over 0.6 you will have high CPU usage for a while as the entire library has to be rebuilt. It is however worth it as it makes checking for changes in the future much faster, it is also required for various new features in 1.0.
During that time, not all of your media will be available.

As for the freezing, zip will have to answer that, maybe something is happening on the same thread before returing to the client which would normally be near instant, but in that case take a while?

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

I am aware that it takes a while for items to appear while the database builds but its had ages to work on it and still alot of stuff was missing. My Picture library is 20GB and the video library is 5GB, most things showed up quite quickly with 0.6.2 but still, not being able to add more librarys is the biggest problem.

Would taking a log help anyone diagnose the problem? probably would, Ill see if I can do it.

ok, I think I enabled detailed loggin, I followed what it says in the wiki but i dont know if it worked, anyway this is what I got....

i had the high processor use after a clean install after several hours, all of the media was already indexed except for online sources some of which would not load.

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

not much in the log, did you restart your PC? It looks to me like a Java issue, you might want to try earlier version.. just make sure you only have 1 installed on your system.

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

There is nothing mentioned in the wiki about restarting your PC after editing log4j, it says to stop the serviio service and restart it, which takes forever.

I got bored waiting and restarted the PC instead, I now have a copy of the log file :D . Its really long and I dont know how to make it appear in one of those scrolling boxes within a post so appologies for making the thread difficult to read

I have had to edit the log because the forum wont let me post it, says its too big....

All i did was start the PC, leave it for a few seconds then tried to add C:\Users\Mark\Documents\TVRecordings to the Library and unselected the metadata option and selected Video and clicked save. The console then freezes.

It did this when I had Java 6 something on and now with java 7.

Thanks
Mark.

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

Same issue for me adding a mounted share drive:

2012-07-26 21:15:42,858 WARN [LibraryAdditionsCheckerThread] Folder 'Z:\Serien' is either not an existing directory or cannot be read due to access rights
2012-07-26 21:15:42,858 DEBUG [LibraryUpdatesCheckerThread] Looking for removed playlist files in repository: Z:\Serien

2012-07-26 21:15:42,860 DEBUG [MediaItemDAOImpl] Reading dirty MediaItems for Repository (id = 1)

Z:\Serien is mounted as guest, access works out just fine for every other program.

Please let me know if you've got any questions.

Regards
Thomas

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

Nothing suspicious in the log... Is the adding folders the only thing that freezes? Can you for example save Presentation changes?

Remote drive - you have to give the system accunt that runs the Serviio service the rights, or change the user that runs the service. More in FAQ.

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

Hello Petr,

I'm getting the same results when running the serviio service with the default
- local system account with [x] let the service and the system exchange data
and when running the serviio service under the
- the username that is currently logged on

Saving presentation changes works out just fine.
Thanks.

Did you check the log what it's doing? It's rebuilding your entire library most likely.

Hi Zip,

seems to be just when using the library. I can change presentations and other things just fine, nothing hangs or crashes.

So how did you manage to share at least some files when you cannot save the folders?

Re: problems adding to library with 1.0

It just does, i can add 2 locations to the library, one is C:\Users\Mark\Pictures, the other is C:\Users\Mark\video.

If I try and remove one of those it will freeze when I save, if I try and add another it will freeze when i save.

Also the database dosent seem to be being updated, no photos at all have been available on the TV at all today, usually with 0.6.2 i get a few new folders in the photo library appearing every few minutes or so.
