[SOLVED] Audio problem - stereo only

Hello,

I already searched through the forums and was unable to find a thread dealing with this issue so thought I'd ask.

I am trying to stream from Serviio installed on my Synology NAS to a Sony Bravia 2011 EX520 and everything works great except for the fact that I can't get surround sound working.

All movies that I stream (ones where I know they have Dolby 5.1) pop up as stereo audio on the TV. In the Serviio console, I have the "keep original audio channels" option ticked.

Any ideas? Your help is much appreciated!

Re: Audio problem - stereo only

Serviio always select the first audio track for transcoding process.
Does this file is streamed in native format or transcode ?
Could you provide information about your file?
Could you enable detailed logging (see signature link), play the file and find on log the ffmpeg command line used ?

This is the MediaInfo readout from one of the files (I am having this issue with all files that play as 5.1 on my PC).
First track is 6 channel DTS, second channel is 2 channel AC3.

I wanted to try to get the detailed log for you, but I was unable to find the log4j.xml file on my Synology NAS server where Serviio is installed. Please let me know how I should proceed and thanks for your assistance!

Re: Audio problem - stereo only

For what it's worth I don't think it's playing the second track (i.e. not the commentary), it's just that the DTS track is somehow not coming through correctly.

Hi Illico,

Thanks for your help.

I finally figured out how to enable detailed logging for Serviio on my NAS so I was going to post the logged ffmpeg command line for you but it turns out to not be necessary - I (accidentally) fixed the issue.

I stream from Serviio to my TV, which in turn is hooked up to an AV receiver. For some reason the receiver doesn't recognise the audio stream coming from the TV as Dolby Digital when streamed using Serviio and so just reproduces stereo sound.

If I "trick" the receiver by playing another Dolby Digital source before streaming (i.e. Blu-Ray player or Xbox 360), so that the receiver is already in Dolby Digital mode, and I then stream a file using Serviio, the surround sound gets reproduced without any problems, so it works! Still not sure what the issue is because this only occurs when streaming using Serviio (i.e. if I stream using the integrated DLNA server from my NAS, which supports much less formats so I tend not to use it otherwise, this doesn't occur) but this workaround has got it fixed.

Cheers,
Fabian
